Time Warner removes Fox, Viacom, and Discovery channels from iPad App

time warner iPad app

Amidst a controversy over streaming rights, Time Warner Cable has agreed to remove content from Fox Cable Networks, Viacom, and Discovery from its iPad app.

All three networks were "willing to threaten to sue over it," Jeff Simmermon, director of digital communications at Time Warner Cable, wrote in a blog post, so Time Warner has pulled the networks from its iPad streaming for the time being.

Specifically, Time Warner will remove streaming access to 11 channels: Animal Planet, BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, FX, MTV, National Geographic, Nickelodeon, Spike, and VH1.

Time Warner still maintains that it has "every right" to stream content from these channels via its iPad app, but said it will focus its iPad efforts "on those enlightened programmers who understand the benefit and importance of allowing our subscribers - and their viewers - to watch their programming on any screen in their homes."

Discovery leaves International Space Station for the last time

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Misc. Tech, Science, Videos,

The space shuttle Discovery undocked from the International Space Station for the last time this morning and started its two-day journey back to the Kennedy Space Center.

The shuttle fired its jets to separate from the ISS at 8:37am Eastern, NASA said. Discovery is scheduled to land at 11:58am on Wednesday; at this point, weather conditions are favorable.

Overall, the astronauts engaged in seven days, 23 hours, and 55 minutes worth of joint activities with the ISS crew. This is Discovery's 39th and final mission.

The crew received a special wake-up call at 3:23am this morning: the theme from "Star Trek" and a recorded message from actor William Shatner. "Space, the final frontier. These have been the voyages of the Space Shuttle Discovery. Her 30 year mission: To seek out new science. To build new outposts. To bring nations together on the final frontier. To boldly go, and do, what no spacecraft has done before," Shatner said.

Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij on His Gay Anthem

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Alternative,

Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij‘s Rostam Batmanglij said he hopes “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” will be a huge hit with the gay community one day.

“With that song I was having fun, but at the same time it was honest - those lyrics are meaningful to me, they come from my heart,” the keyboardist, who publicly revealed his sexuality, said about the track he wrote last year for his side project, Discovery. “I was disappointed when it didn’t become a gay anthem, but, you know, it’s not too late.”

Speaking about his main band’s new record, Contra, the 26-year-old talked about how the group worked to develop a postmodern feel for some of the tracks.

“We wanted something very different from the first record,” Rostam said about Vampire’s CD to Out magazine. “You hear ‘80s harmonies on Contra, and for me that was the challenge: to make it not just sound like the ‘80s but feel like the ‘80s too. Because of the way it’s presented, with the sampler and choir, the song ‘I Think Ur a Contra’ sounds new but also nostalgic.”

Vampire Weekend is scheduled to make their second appearance on on March 6.
