Quote of the Day: Gia Coppola on Growing Up on Sets

Gia Coppola Gary Oldman as Dracula

"I remember being on Dracula and Gary Oldman scaring me in his bat costume. He sneaked up on me, and I turned around and there was a bat tapping on my shoulder. And then I worked behind the scenes on my grandpa's movie Twixt. He enjoyed showing me how everything comes together and taking me through it all. That felt like my film school."

- Palo Alto director Gia Coppola describes what it's like growing up in the famous Hollywood family.

Joel Kinnaman Hurt Leg on ‘Robocop’

Joel KinnamanJoel Kinnaman injured a muscle in his leg while shooting Robocop.

The 34-year-old actor - who plays cop Alex Murphy who is turned into a cyborg law enforcement officer in the movie - didn't sustain any serious injuries while shooting the action-packed science fiction film and the only ailment he did suffer was a minor muscular strain.

When asked if he had gotten injured at any point during the shoot, Joel told BANG Showbiz, "I pulled my hamstring one day, I did it when I was running."

Kinnaman appears in the movie with a stellar cast, which includes Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton. But there was one actor who Kinnaman enjoyed working with more than anyone else: "Working with Gary Oldman was one of the great experiences of my life, he's an incredible actor and also a wonderful man. I was extremely happy [to get the role], I worked hard to get it. I had to audition three times and finally I was able to convince Dr. Padilha [director] that I was the right guy." Kinnaman was joined on the special blue carpet at the event yesterday evening by his co-stars Oldman and Cornish and the film's director Jose Padilha.

Samuel L. Jackson to Star in Robocop

Samuel L. JacksonSamuel L. Jackson is set to star in Robocop.

The 63-year-old actor is said to have signed up to appear in the remake of the 1987 action film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson will play "charismatic media mogul" Pat Novak, while Joel Kinnaman has already been cast as police officer Alex Murphy who is brought back to life as a cyborg. Gary Oldman will also star as the scientist who creates Murphy.

The movie - which is being directed by Jose Padilha - is due to begin shooting in Toronto, Canada, this September and scheduled to be released next summer.

The original film starred Peter Weller in the lead role and Nancy Allen as his partner, Lewis, and took more than $60m at the box office.

Gary Oldman Excited to Play an Englishman

Gary OldmanGary Oldman signed up for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy so he could be an Englishman.

The British actor - best known for his eccentric roles including Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series and Commissioner Gordon in the latest Batman films - was delighted to leave his Hollywood home to head for the UK to work on the project because he felt like it was "proper."

"It is always a lot of fun coming back to England and doing things like Harry Potter and Batman, but really they are fantasy worlds, so it is nice to come and do something like Tinker Tailor, something proper. Actually, it was also nice to come back and play an Englishman."

He also admits another reason he was glad to play the role of spy George Smiley in the film was because of the all-star cast: "I was just very flattered to be asked to play George Smiley at all. I mean, really, just to be involved in a film like this would've been fantastic. You've got John Hurt, Colin Firth, Kathy Burke, all these terrific actors, and it's just a delicious part."

Christopher Nolan Keeping Close Tabs on Dark Knight Script

The Dark Knight RisesGary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon director Christopher Nolan won't give out scripts for the film's final scenes. The filmmaker is determined to keep the ending of his third Batman movie - which stars Christian Bale as the caped crusader - under wraps so he is instead advising his cast on the story verbally in order to minimize the chance of leaks.

"Christopher doesn't want anyone to ruin it and I completely understand that. The newer people on the film go to his office to read the script. They sent mine out, but it had to be hand delivered directly to me and nobody else. And the final few pages were missing. I went along and talked to Christopher and in person about the ending. Then I locked it away in my head," said Gary Oldman, who plays Police Commissioner James Gordon.

Gary is happy with his role in the film and is pleased his career has moved on from the "frenetic" characters of his younger days, such as Drexl from True Romance and Stansfield in Leon. He added, "I was younger then, that's all. In The Dark Knight Rises I'm the 50 year old police commissioner while wonderful, young Heath Ledger is bouncing off the walls as The Joker. Now, had that part come along 15 years ago, people might have said, 'That's a Gary Oldman role.'"

Third Batman Movie in the Works

Christian Bale - BatmanThe caped crusader is finally set to return to the big screen.

The sequel to The Dark Knight, still untitled, will begin production in April 2011. Movie franchise stars , Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman are all involved with the project.

Warner Bros. has scheduled the next movie for a July 20, 2012 release date.

Director ‘s current project, Inception, opened in theaters today.
