Gear Live Giveaway: Logitech Harmony 676
Each week, Gear Live gives away awesome tech prizes courtesy of PrizeCube. The winner of the last contest was Ben Vante, who walked away with a brand new Nintendo DS.
A couple of weeks ago, we told you about how Logitech was giving away 100 Harmony 676 remotes per day for a week. If you weren’t lucky enough to cop one, we have your hookup. While we aren’t going to give away anywhere near 100 of these, we are going to give one away to a lucky reader. All you have to do is let us know what you would use this item for in the comments area. What kind of setup do you have in your living room? And hey, it’s a random drawing, so you can still win even if you have a poor man’s system. Don’t thank me, thank PrizeCube. As always, this is open to US residents only. You have a week.

I have a pretty awesome system. We’ve got a HUGE 27” Sharp TV, an AMAZING Panasonic 5 speaker surround setup, a WHOPPING 5-Disc DVD changer, and, the best part, a STANDARD VCR. It’s an amazing rig.
Truth be told, it’s the most normal setup on earth. A remote like this one would probably be embarrassed to be used on it. Instead, it’d probably be placed in a air-tight case and displayed to honored guests.
I can’t wait to win.

I have a Sony Wega 27” (got it for free hehe)
Connected to a DVD player and digital cable box, thats it so far.

In my living room I have my Sony Wega (thanks Gratis) but mostly only use that for console gaming. My room is more of my entertainment center where I have my PC, TV/VCR combo, cable and my TIVO. Although the included remote for the tivo is ok, the harmony would be awesome and make things a LOT easier.
Have you guys read about this thing? If not find Andrus reveiw and do a google...these things are awesome!
PS thanks Gear Live and PrizeCube!

I have an ultrasharp 12 inch COLOR TV. This remote will fit nicely with it, as I believe they are almost the same size.

I have a Harmony remote in my living room but would always love another for the bedroom. They are the easiest remotes to program EVER!!!

Wish you could edit posts. This remote would go with my 27” Wega, TiVo, Toshiba DVD, XBOX, PS2, and ummmmm can it control Sirius boomboxes?

I would use the Logitech Harmony 676 as a bone for my dog...and to clear away the clutter of remotes that I have now. It would keep my hands free from having to juggle between 4 different remotes when trying to play a DVD!
Speaking of which, my living room setup is a Yamaha HTR-5740 with 6.1 surround sound and a 14 year old 28-inch Sony Trinitron. Talk about upgrades...sheesh!
P.S. Yes, my T.V is in COLOR.

i have a 48 cm (seems im the only one who uses metric) tv that wont even accept remote control input… i guess it could work well for my vcr… i dont have a “sound system” except my tiny stereo double casette player. i guess when you said poor mans you didn’t mean this poor :D such is the life of a student not at home without a job.

I would use the Harmony 676 on my 5.1 surround Bosch speakers, Rank Arena DVD Player, FM Radio, Cable Tv and.... my tv.
TV isnt that great though :(......

The first thing that I would do is open the sucker up. Then I would replace the batteries with a bakers dozen of car batteries using a complex grid or wiring, this would roughly multiply the power by 68.7 million times the original value. Then I would strap the sucker onto the back of my 1979 El Camino with some duct tape, and have my cousin Nils ride in the back ready to press the rewind button . Then I will start doing counter-clockwise donuts in the snow really fast.
If all goes well, the counter-clockwise rotation of the Camino and the juice running through the remote control from the 13 car batteries will cause a quantum timeshift allowing me to rewind time. Rewind my cousing and I all the way back to ‘73 to witness the Houses of the Holy tour of Led Zepplin. After that I would fast forward to when the “Family Guy” came back on television, and press the record button to record it to my Camino. Then travel back to the present and show “Family Guy” to all of my friends, but I would have to charge them a dollar.... to bay for the car batteries.

I would utilize the Harmony 676 to control all componenets in my living room. It would allow me to clear away the the different remotes I now use.
The Harmony 676 would let me enjoy my entertainment without a headache. I wouldn’t have to juggle from the tv to the vcr to the dvd to the home theatre system before finally enjoying a great movie or game.
My living room setup is a Sony sound system with 5.1 surround sound, a 27-inch RCA television. A Sony cd changer, 5 disc cd changer, VCR, Xbox, and a PSTwo

I have a 50” LCD Projection TV, hooked up to a Panasonic home theatre with a built-in 5 DVD changer. An XBox, and a Panasonic VCR
Hope I’m gonna win !!!

I have an old RCA 5.1 system which I use as an electronic switcher for my VHS, DVD, Cable, Dreamcast, my flashtraxx mp3/video player and a wireless laptop for mp3/video. All of this connects to my 32inch tube tv, and of course the RCA has a built in tuner. Each of these items (except the dreamcast) has a remote. I also have x10 lighting in my house. The harmony would reduce my remote count from 7 to 1.

This remote is so sick. Ive gotta have it!
My brother recently spent his life savings on the 50” Samsung DLP HDTV and I chipped in whatever money I had to complete the home theater with a Sony 800W 5.1 surround sound and 5-disc progressive scan DVD/CD/MP3 Player, making it the most mind-boggling home theater on the block. Playing my XBOX and PS2 on it is a surreal experience, and all my friends are blown away. This remote would just top all off.
GearLive ROX!!

I would use this in my living room, which includes 2 tvs, vcr, dvd, and sound system. Does this remote work for the PS2 also? I have 2 of them in there, too.

I would use this in the movie theater. I have my 128” projector in there and i have a bunhc of different boxes that need like 10 remotes and this would fix teh problem. I’d like to finally be in “harmony”

This would make a nice addition to my pile of stuff to sell on eBay

I would use it to finally consolidate down to 1 remote! I have a 60” Sony XBR projects (older non-HD), Yamaha surround receiver, Tivo, xBox, Gamecube, DVD, VCR etc. I’m down to just two remotes (the Yamaha and Tivo), but have yet to find an all-in-one that can consolidate the Tivo remote.
Hope I win! - Thanks - love your blog - it’s on my top 5 on Bloglines....

I have a HP z545 Media Center connected via HDMI to a Sony WEGA 34” HDTV running at 1080i. It’s pretty much an all in one solution for home media. I would love this remote beacuse it could replace both the media center and the TV remotes thus eliminating the clutter factor on the couch.
Reply to this: comment
I would do what most people would do with a remote like that consolidate the 4 remotes that I have and turn them into one easy to handle and find remote.

im lazy, so i spend a lot of time in bed. if i could command my tv, dvd player, etc from my bed, id be a happy panda.

I would use it to point at PrizeCube and press “play.” Play means - - get going and ship out our stuff instead of giving away free stuff.
Thank you.

I’d use it for my 27” WEGA, my Sony reciever, XBox, crappy VCR, and most importantly with my new laptop. It’s Avertec with the remote for watching DVD’s and stuff, and I would feel like quite the pimp controlling all my audio/video gear and my lappy with one remote.

I have a 20” JVC TV with built-in DVD player, and a PS2 on top of it. Then I have a Bose Wave Radio w/ CD as my alarm clock and the Altec Lansing iM3s and iMminis (I believe it won’t work with the Altec Lansings, although I have a NaviPod). Then I have a Sony Media Center PC running Windows XP home (again, this would probably not work). Getting a multifunction remote would be like getting a new life for all of my electronics. It might even be the end of their life as I’d get something more compatible with the remote!

Actually, I would rigg it to be used on my HTPC using Girder, LCD TV, and my dvd player. Reprogram all the buttons to do what I want it to. No BS here.

This amazingly capable and skillfully designed remoted, if won, would be used to manipulate a few electronics in the living room. It would control a 32” Sony Flat screen Wega, Daewoo DVD player, Panasonic VHS player, and a 4-speaker Panasonic Stereo system. If the remote does not suit me in a fashinable matter, I will most likley give it to my brother in-law, who is a big computer fan and would greatly appreciate my gift. Thanks for your time.

I got a crap system, but a bunch of things that use remotes.
Apex 20” flat screen
TiVo
Digital Cable Box
Xbox w/ DVD remote
PS2 w/ DVD remote
It certainly sucks having to look for each of them if I’m in need of any of them

I have a 50” Panasonic DLP tv(brand new) with a Motorola HDTV DVR and a swank DVD player. As well as a few other Cool Electronics, multimedia PC and a few consoles. I’d like to reduce the Remote count on my coffee table and this would be just the ticket!

I would use this to for watching DVDs on my LCD TV I got from Free Flatscreens.

This would make a great addition to my 20 inch panasonic tv, xbox, sony dvd/vcr combo. I don’t really have that many remotes, but this is definitely the coolest one ever!

I would use this to replace the remotes my sisters have broken, and to control the world once I take it over. As everyone knows, if you manage to take over the world you’d better have a damn good way of controlling it. Maybe I’d hook it up to my htpc too

My God I need this remote! I have a total of 9...count’em....9 remotes on my coffee table. I just purchased a 42” plasma from Costco and I really need the remote to reflect the cool home theater system I have now! I can’t stand the remote juggling that I need to do now, not to mention the lengthy training session I need to give to parents and visitors on how to use the current remotes!

Well I think I could use this remote. My set up isnt much to look at. It consist of an Admiral 20ish inch tv and some crappy off brand dvd-vcr combo that rivals my tv in weight. I think that this remote could help me a bit. I have 2 remotes to control my tv, duct taped together. Why? Well because I cannot find a universal remote that will work for my tv properly(I have gone through at least 4). I have the one that came with it, I use it to change channels and access the main menu now. It used to work fine, but the wear and tear on it has left more than half the buttons useless. The other remote that I use for volume and power is a Phillips Magnavox Universal remote, the only remote that I can afford that comes close to working correctly. The channel up/down buttons dont work and I cant access the menu with it, but I can navigate it to some extent. As for the lunker of a dvd/vcr combo I have, well the dog chewed that one up, so now I have that programed in the crappy Phillips remote. I think the Harmony remote may finally be the answer I am looking for, might make my life a litte easier.

I would use it with my RCA 52” rear projection TV, Also, I have a Cyberhome DVD player, DirecTV RCA box and a Panasonic VCR. Most importantly, I would hope to use it with my xbox and media center PC if I can.

The Wega 27” with DVD player and surround would be quite happy with some new control!

Well, all I really have to use it on is my TV, DVD Player, and Boombox, lol. Can this thing work with my A/C (i doubt it but oh well)?

I dont have anything fancy (yet) but I would use it to change the channel and turn up the volume. Also anything else the freakishly expensive remote can do. Also I just need a new remote because my current one doesnt really work and the batteries wont stay in. Hope I win!

I’ve got a Sony 500-watt receiver with 2 Fisher speakers as my left and right front speakers and the stock speakers for the rest. I’ve got a Sony DVD player with coaxial audio, a 27” Daewoo TV with Component video, a Zenith VCR (that talks to me if i deem it worthy of such fanciness) a Tivo and a System Selector Pro. I;ve also got the Xbox, Cube and PS2 hooked up via Coponent video and optical audio when possible.
Switching from one device to another is a project. The receiver needs to be on video2 for xbox with the TV on CV and the system selector pro set to the Xbox. If i decide to watch the DVD player i need to switch the system selector pro to DVD and the receiver to DVD. If I, for some reason, decide i want to watch my Tivo, the TV needs to go to Video2, the receiver to Video 1, the System selector needs to be turned off and the VCR needs to be turned on.
All in all the process requires three remotes (one of which is long lost) and its almost ike a password to get each device to working properly.

Hi,
I have a complicated system with a dvd player, receiver, Play station 2, VCR and the tv. Its a nightmare to switch around to do anything. One of these would make like a lot simpler!

I’m currently battling colon cancer as a 21 year old so I spend a lot of time in my “AV” room. I’ve got a 50” Samsung DLP 1080p HDTV, an XBox 360 Elite with HD DVD Player, a Pioneer 5.1 surround sound system made for XBox 360, an HD DVR box, and I’m still rocking an old school NES. I could definitely use the remote because I’m currently using four different ones to control all of the components. Help me out here! I could use something going my way!

I would control my old school Proscan tv. My DVD player and my VCR. Yup a VCR. And if I can make it work my stereo.
I love remotes. I love being in control. I never let my DH have the remote.
