Cammi GranatoThe Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee dusted themselves off and joined the 21st century on Tuesday afternoon when they selected both potential choices to be the pioneers of the women’s game to become members of the famed building. Toronto’s Angela James and Downers Grove, Illinois native Cammi Granato will become the first females to be inducted in a decision that many believe is years late. However, late is better than never, as they say.

Olympic Women's HockeyIt was the match everybody wanted to see. Sort of. Team Canada took on the USA for gold in the women’s ice hockey and the Canadians prevailed for the third-straight Olympics, squeezing out a 2-0 win. The game packed Canada Hockey Place, and millions more tuned in to watch, but while the women delivered one of the most spectacular hockey games you’ll ever see, the long hair flowing under every helmet and facemasks covering eyes wearing eyeliner gave things a different feel.

Team CanadaWith the Olympics in full swing, the world has now got a taste of what the countries in the women’s ice hockey tournament are all about. Nothing too unexpected has happened so far. For the US team it’s business as usual, while the Canadian women have laid a beating on their competition so far. In their first game last Saturday, Canada broke their own Olympic record for goals by crushing Slovakia 18-0. It was a game that prompted many questions among the hockey world.

Manon Rheaume, where are you now?

Manon RheaumeOn September 23, 1992, history was made in the National Hockey League. It was not the kind of history that one typically cares to remember, but it makes a great question in Trivial Pursuit. The Tampa Bay Lightning – then an expansion team trying to make a name for itself – dressed and played the first female player in the NHL. Manon Rheaume played one period as goaltender of the Lightning against the St. Louis Blues. She faced nine shots, letting two of them past her. While it was only an exhibition game, the publicity around the event expectedly rocked the sports world – which is exactly what the Lightning hoped for.
