Justin Verlander throws second career no-hitter

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, News,

Justin VerlanderJustin Verlander was one pitch away from being perfect today. As a small consolation, he was awarded his second career no-hitter. He’s now the 28th pitcher in history to record multiple no-hitters, and has thrown two of the Detroit Tigers' seven in franchise history. The hard-throwing righty needed only 108 pitches for his nine innings of work, and he regularly hit triple digits with his fastball on the radar gun. Behind him, his teammates played exceptional defense as many Toronto Blue Jays put the ball in play.

Roy HalladayWhen people predicted that the National League’s best offensive team might threaten the two-time NL defending champions, they were sorely wrong. The Phillies swept the Reds in what turned out to be a pushover for a divisional series, sweeping Cincinnati in three straight and celebrating with champagne in the locker room afterwards. But the marvels on the mound do not stop with major league hurlers. There are dozens of guys with blue chip arms in the minors who will not even step into a major league stadium. One of those guys is Kyle Drabek.

The Tampa Bay Rays pitching is driving the ship

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,

David PriceThe Tampa Bay Rays are picking a poor time to go through a team-wide slump. After a 17-11 thrashing from the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon, the Rays have now lost four in a row; the longest losing skid of the season for the American Wild Card leaders. Despite the 17-run outburst, the Rays have some of the best pitching in baseball. The night before they lost 2-1, but both were unearned; just the second time in club history they have lost without giving up an earned run.
