Ashlee Simpson Defends Curvy Jessica

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Music, Television, Rants,

Ashlee Simspon on the cover of Women's HealthIn a recent interview, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz shot back at the media for commenting on her sister’s weight.

“My sister has an incredible body. I feel sorry for anyone who would judge her, because she’s one sexy lady. It’s disgusting that people would say those things.”

Ashlee, who landed the cover of this month’s Women’s Health magazine, also added that she cannot wait to gain the pounds: “There’s gonna be a time when I’m way curvier, and that’ll be sexy too. What defines sexy is not someone’s weight. Personally I like curves. ... I wanna look good [for me]. I wanna feel good.”

The weighty backlash from Ashlee comes shortly after Jessica wrote an angry post on her Twitter regarding her sister’s swift departure from her show Melrose Place.

Those Simpson sisters sure do know how to get each others’ backs.

Gemma Ward Walks Away From Modeling

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Health & Beauty, Models, News, Rumors,

Gemma Ward on a recent outing in New YorkWhile the news isn’t necessarily a shock due to her absence from the runways and ad campaigns, model Gemma Ward has officially announced via her agency that she is to quit modeling.

“Gemma hasn’t committed to returning to modeling at any time soon,” a spokeswoman said.

The announcement comes after photos of the model/actress having gained a few sizes appeared online, accumulating a mixed slew of supportive and awful comments from readers. Many speculate that her weight gain and departure are due to the death of Heath Ledger, whom she was romantically linked to shortly before that January day.

I find it sad that for Ward, a model who was constantly attacked early in her career for being too skinny, is now under fire for being too heavy! It’s not as if she’s doing any modeling work; even if she did, who cares if someone decides to hire a model of a more average dress size?

She ought to go back to acting, in my opinion. She creeped me out as Dollface in The Strangers and has garnered plenty of positive criticism for her role in The Black Balloon.

Quote of the Day: Robert Verdi on Food

Stylist Robert Verdi

“There are different cultural norms and values and beauty identities, and the fact that thin is in — who cares? It’s why I stopped eating. I think food is for fat people and poor people. Rich people don’t eat. They get dressed up and go shopping.”

Amber Rose Represents Real Women

Amber Rose at Elle Women in Hollywood AwardsEver wonder what kind of conversation model Amber Rose had with Ford Models when they signed her? Well, now we don’t have to wonder so much—Rose dished some tidbits at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards.

“I told them, Don’t ask me to grow out my hair or lose any weight. I want to represent real women who have curves.”

Right, because real women can pull off the shaved head look! So what about those tattoos?

Well, she revealed to blogger Elizabeth Snead that she promised Ford to not get any more ink done—until her contract is up, that is.

Oh Amber Rose—you’re so rebellious! No wonder Kanye West loves you so much. Much unlike Kanye, however, Rose has a sense of humor. When host Alec Baldwin jokingly alluded to her boyfriend’s infamous VMA incident, the runway model giggled a bit.

As if anyone can resist Mr. Baldwin’s charm…

Quote of the Day: Lily Cole on Failure

Lily Cole loves her curves

“I’ve never studied the correlation between the decades of plenty and the size of models, but it’s interesting, for sure. I was never asked to lose weight. I’m assuming people who are less successful are the ones who are told they need to be teeny to be so.”

- UK size 6 model Lily Cole on why other models haven’t found the same success she has met (oh, to wonder what Flippa Hamilton would say!).

Karl Lagerfeld Defends Thin Models

Karl Lagerfeld and his thin modelsLiving fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld has blasted “fat mummies” for their attitudes against skinny models.

The 71-year-old Chanel designer criticized Brigitte magazine’s announcement that they will only use “ordinary, realistic” models in future, insisting that people prefer looking at slim women and the “absurd” decision was driven by overweight women who did not want to be reminded of their body problems.

“These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly. Fashion is all about dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women.”

Another designer, John Ribbe, has also spoken out, saying the row over models’ weight is becoming hysterical: “It’s just as much a cliche as saying that all models take drugs and get drunk at sex orgies. Ninety per cent of them are quite normal, properly proportioned girls with less fat and more muscles who also eat pizzas and burgers.”

Brigitte are planning to release their first edition with non-professional models on January 2nd and are urging readers to sign up for photo sessions, saying that they are tired of having to “fatten up” pictures. Editor Andrea Lebert said, “We will show women that have their own identity—the 18-year-old A-level student, the company chairwoman, the musician, the footballer.”

Tyra Banks

- who was criticized when she was photographed looking heavier than usual in an unflattering swimsuit in 2007 - insists her weight has never affected how she feels about her body.

Tyra - a former Victoria’s Secret model - revealed her weight has fluctuated from 148 lb to 162 lb since she quit modelling, but she has now shown off her new svelte figure with a photo shoot in New York.

“I might be doing a little TMI [too much information] - I always feel great when I don’t have clothes on. When I told the world to kiss my fat a*s, I remained that size for two years. I maintained it with my ice cream and my salad with ranch and dressing and croutons and bacon bits,” Banks told talk show host Larry King.

Sharon Stone Physically Challenged by Casino Role

Sharon Stone in Casino

nearly starved to death while making Casino. The actress didn’t eat for a week before filming a crucial scene because she was so desperate to impress director Martin Scorsese by looking “skinny and out of it.”

Sharon recalled prepping for her Oscar-nominated role for an interview with Prestige magazine:

“I nearly actually physically killed myself making Casino. We did the death scene on the last day because Scorsese knew I wanted to get just so completely skinny and out of it. In the final week I didn’t eat, I didn’t do anything, I just made myself a complete wreck so that I could get skinny, skinny, skinny, skinny and down to nothing. I lost so much weight.”

“As a teenager I was plump but my appearance wasn’t so important at that time. I focused much more on my music and song writing,” she revealed. “I know that image in this profession is a matter of opinion. I think the external appearance in show business is important and over the years I’ve discovered my assets. Honestly, I’ve never seen myself as a goddess or sex symbol.”
