Paula Abdul Dissed By MTV
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Videos, Breaking News,
Paula Abdul had been mostly relegated to VH1 by the time I was old enough to start watching music videos, but I’ll never, ever forget the number she did with the rapping, cartoon alley cat. Talk about a horrible musical moment.
Abdul has recently made the attempt to resurrect her oh-so-yesterday musical career through collaboration with Randy Jackson. The new music video for her single debuted on American Idol (and can be viewed by you after the jump), but according to reports it might not be seen anywhere else.

MONDAY (3/3)
- The Royal Family (ABC, 8pm): Barbara Walters hosts a special that documents a year in the lives of the British royal family. Wow - they’re letting people get to know them better? That’s such a Diana move.
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm): “In the two-hour finale, John and Derek are at odds over whether Cameron can be trusted.” Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out whether I’ll miss the show.
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): “Marty gets Josh an interview with the president of Paramount.” At least one of them will have a job when the show’s cancelled.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 9:30): “Matthew goes to therapy to discuss intimacy issues and learns he is too dependent on his sister.” Did anyone else shudder when they read that sentence?

Paris Hilton Asks: Will You Be My Best Friend?
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip, News,
Paris Hilton has money, looks, street cred from spending time in the pokey and at least the illusion of perhaps somewhere deep down a shred of talent, but what she really needs is a friend…you perhaps?
Us Magazine says that’s the concept for Hilton’s next reality show. Sources, always unnamed of course, tell Us Paris is “tired of the haters and is looking for someone new. She’s looking for someone new and cool who she can trust.” I suspect the bigger question is can you trust her? Let’s hope she cares for her friends a bit better than her dogs or cell phones since she always seems to be losing both.
The project doesn’t have a title yet. Us says it is expected to be picked up by MTV or VH1.

MONDAY (2/11)
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm): “Sarah meets a stranger (Brian Austin Green) who shares a similar past.” They were once both white rappers?
- Dance War (ABC, 8pm): “The touring company of ‘High School Musical’ performs.” The contestants, now left with inferiority complexes, are unable to go on.
- Flavor of Love (VH1, 9pm): Third season premiere. Is it a coincidence that a Flav-ex has since show up on Celebrity Rehab?
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): “The escape attempt is successful for some, if not all, of the escapees.” Apparently you can miss weeks of this show and not miss a thing.

Watch ‘Salt-N-Pepa’ on VH1
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Editorial, Spoilers,
Though it seems the first season of The Salt-N-Pepa Show only finished airing recently, it’s already time for a second season on VH1. Based on concept alone, it may not sound like a reality hit. Take two early ‘90s rap queens, a bunch of cameras, and it would be easy to create a bomb. This is not the case with Cheryl and Sandy (Salt and Pepa).
I’ll admit it: I watched every episode of the first season. As their names would suggest, the two leading ladies are very much opposites. Cheryl now raps mainly for the Lord in her church and in her private recording studio at home, while Pepa likes to hit the clubs and have a good time. Both are mothers, but each approaches the task differently. (Pepa’s definitely the less strict of the two.) One is single, the other married. Yet despite all these differences which might make friendship seem difficult, the two are the best of friends. When they get together there might be a lot of head-butting, but there’s laughter, too. There are a lot of scripted shows out there about female friendship, shows that somehow ring false. This female friendship is real and enduring, and something about it is truly heartwarming.

‘Celebrity Rehab’: Just Another Reality Show?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Editorial,
The Internet community, the media and addiction professionals have spoken out against VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Criticisms call the show “exploitive,” and say it’s really just another TV show with people playing to that fact. Faces and Voices of Recovery, a group for recovering addicts, even began a letter-writing campaign to the cable channel to complain about the show. And normally, honestly, I wouldn’t even care. But I have seen this particular reality show, and I can tell you in all seriousness it’s not like anything else on TV.
Leading man Dr. Drew Pinky, whose fatherly face and forty-nine-year-old fit form make him look more like star material than your average addiction expert, obviously doesn’t need VH1 to further his own career or find a spotlight. Pinsky has enjoyed the spotlight for two and a half decades, landing every type of gig from radio to movies. A genuine motive to help is what propels him to do the show, and while the same may not be said of all the recovering addicts on the show (but who can really tell?), Celebrity Rehab isn’t just another Surreal Life with a different package.

Five Best Moments from ‘Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Editorial, Gossip,
Last Thursday night, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon my latest reality obsession. Surprisingly, it lacked a competition element and it, thankfully, didn’t compete with American Idol. (Though it does have a connection to it). My current must see fave? Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.
Given my predilection for Train Wreck television, the series immediately had one thing going for it. But I like to think my voyeuristic eye is drawn toward things with a bit more substance, and this show filled that role quite nicely. Rehab combines the grittiness of A&E’s fabulous Intervention, the B-list comedy of VH1’s Surreal Life, the hopefulness of NBC’s The Biggest Loser and the frank, yet informative, talk usually seen from Oprah’s Dr. Oz. The nice whole package was then topped off with the appealing and non-judgmental presence of Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Engagement News for Fergie, New York
Despite turning down a proposal from George “Tailor Made” Weisgerber on the recent finale of her show, People is reporting that Tiffany “New York” Pollard recently had a change of heart. After selecting George at the end of I Love New York 2’s second season, Pollard, 25, told her suitor she wanted to wait before agreeing to any nuptials. Although he agreed to wait the requested 24-months, the attention-seeking
lovesick Weisgerber, 32, decided to try again anyway. Fortunately, it turns out the 2nd-time was a charm. (Let’s just hope the same can be said of this engagement; New York’s season one betrothal only lasted a few months.) Fans of the series can witness the awkward/romantic moment for themselves when I Love New York 2’s reunion special airs on January 6.
Meanwhile, another star familiar to the viewers of the cable channel has news of her own to celebrate. Fergie, 2007’s It Girl, just became engaged to actor Josh Duhamel. The Black Eyed Peas singer, 32, and star of Las Vegas, 35, have been together for three years. The couple started dating shortly after she made an appearance on his NBC show.

Scott Baio….No Longer Single
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip,
As we mentioned back in August, Charles in Charge’s Scott Baio had enough personal issues to fill another season of reality programming. Now we have a better idea what we will see when his life unfolds for the cameras again next month.
The famous playboy, and star of Scott Baio is 45…and Single, had spent the duration of his summer VH1 show trying to figure out if he was finally ready for marriage. With the help of a life coach, Baio dealt with a myriad of issues from his past relationships. Although he was known for cheating on most of his high-profile romances, it truly seemed that he was on the road to commitment by the series’ final episode. Unfortunately, that was also when his girlfriend, Renee Sloan, decided to drop a bombshell on him: he was gonna be a daddy.
Several months later, Scott is now the father of a baby girl…and a newlywed. The nuptials - which took place in Los Angeles just this past weekend - will be documented in Season 2 when it premieres this January. No word yet whether the show will be retitled to reflect Baio’s current status.
