4-inch iPhone display leaked on video?

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Rumors, Videos,
It looks like the leaks regarding the new iPhone just keep on coming! Today we've got a video that purportedly shows off the front glass of the device, showing that it's indeed taller than that of the iPhone 4S (and every other iPhone before it.) The glass has space for a 4.07-inch display, and maintains the same width and home button. Also similar to previous leaks, the FaceTime camera has been moved to be centered above the earpiece. It's looking more and more like we'll be seeing a larger screen on the next iPhone.

Cricket to offer pre-paid iPhone plan on June 22

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, Handhelds,
Ever since AT&T killed its prepaid plans for the iPhone, we've been waiting for another US carrier to step up, and now Cricket is ready to bring the prepaid love back to Apple's smartphone. Beginning on June 22nd, Cricket will sell the iPhone alongside a $55 month-to-month plan that brings unlimited voice, text, and data with it. No need for a contract. You can choose from a 16 GB iPhone 4S for $500 or an 8 GB iPhone 4 for $400, and that unlimited data actually tops out at 2.3 GB (which is actually a limit.) Still, this frees you from having to be stuck in a two-year contract.

Anyone planning to pick this one up?
Black and white next-gen iPhone leak: Smaller dock, metal rear, larger display, headphone jack moved

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,
You're looking at what's believed to be the rear panel of the next iPhone (above.) The part was uncovered by iFixYouri, which was tipped off by a "reliable source" at a Chinese parts supplier (the same source who revealed that the iPad 2 would be available in white) who already has the parts for sale. 9to5Mac was able to get even more images of the device.
As you can see in the image, the rear casing matches up quite nicely with recent rumors. We see the rear metal backing (although this is aluminum alloy and not LiquidMetal,) a spot for a much smaller dock connector, and larger speaker grilles as well. In addition, the sides of the device are incorporated into the back piece, and it appears that the headphone jack has been moved to the bottom as well, similar to the iPod touch.
Of course this is all rumor and speculation at this point, and even if real, plans can change at any time. Continue reading for more images!

The next iPhone will likely feature a 3.95-inch, 1136 x 640 display

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Displays, Handhelds, Rumors,
Reports are coming in today that shed more light on what major changes we may be seeing when Apple introduces the new iPhone later this year. According to 9to5Mac, Apple is currently testing two specific iPhone devices that both feature a 3.95-inch display with a resolution of 1136 x 640. This would be the first time that the iPhone ventured away from the 3.5-inch display, as each model since the beginning has used the same screen size.

Steve Jobs worked closely on upcoming iPhone redesign, says Bloomberg

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds,
A few days ago, The Wall Street Journal reported that the next iPhone will have at least a 4-inch display, and the next day Reuters independently reported the same. Yesterday, Bloomberg jumped in with the same report, so it looks like it's a lock. In addition, Bloomberg is also reporting that Steve Jobs "worked closely on the redesigned phone before his death in October."
Interestingly enough, it was Steve Jobs himself who said that no one wants to buy a big phone. Of course, as we've seen with plenty of 4G LTE Android devices, larger smartphones are everywhere. Of course, Apple has some room on the current iPhone form factor to enlarge the display without changing the size of the phone itself too much. Maybe Steve was right--rather than making a big phone, Apple can just make a big display while keeping the device itself relatively the same size.
Best Buy says EVO 4G LTE releases May 23, HTC says ‘not so fast’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, Handhelds,
We know that there are plenty of folks who've pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE that was scheduled to launch on Sprint tomorrow, but due to the HTC devices infringing on Apple patents, they're held up indefinitely in customs. For whatever reason though, Best Buy has posted an update letting shoppers know that it will have the EVO 4G LTE available for sale on the 23rd. HTC responded, saying that there have been no changes, and that it remains in contact with U.S. Customs to secure approval for the shipments of the EVO 4G LTE and One X smartphones.

Sprint will give you at least $100 towards the iPhone 4S when you trade in an older iPhone

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, Hot Deals,
Sprint is still looking to capitalize on its investment in the iPhone, and it looks like its found a way to lure iPhone users to the service. Beginning tomorrow, Sprint will give you at least $100 towards a new iPhone 4S when you trade in any iPhone model when you agree to Sprint two-year contract. The promotion will run through the end of June.
Sprint is currently the only iPhone carrier that offers unlimited data for new customers. Is that enough to make you consider making a switch?

HTC EVO 4G LTE, One X delayed indefinitely in customs due to Apple patent infringement

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News, Google, Handhelds,
Whoa! It looks like two major HTC devices have just been indefinitely delayed at United States Customs for an investigation due to an Apple patent infringement. If you were ready to pick up the HTC One X or HTC EVO 4G LTE on day one, you've got a wait ahead of you:
"The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order. We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with Customs to secure approval."
While HTC is putting on the smiley face for the public, this is a pretty serious blow. The devices that are being held infringe on an Apple patent that covers the action of automatically turning email addresses and phone numbers in tappable links. We don't see how HTC can quickly remove that feature from phones that are sitting in their shipping containers.
