Amazon set to release new line of Kindle hardware, older models discounted and discontinued

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Handhelds, Rumors,

Kindle 5

Amazon is seemingly set to unleash an update to its Kindle ebook readers across the board, as evidenced by the fact that the entire e-ink line is either discounted or discontinued. While the entry-level Kindle is still in supply, the $99 Kindle Touch isn't shipping for 3-5 days, while the $139 version that comes without ads is simply no longer available. The $149 Kindle Touch 3G is also unavailable, and the larger Kindle DX was discounted by $110 on Friday. Supply constraints and discounts like these aren't typical for the Kindle line, except in the instances where Amazon is set to refresh the line. Word on the street is that we'll see a Kindle event sometime in the next week or two that'll highlight updated models.

Weekend Reading: Batman, Doonesbury, Killraven and Kickstarter

Dark Knight RisesSo the Olympics are finally over, and that means it's time to talk about real heroes, right? Y'know, the ones in capes!

For most of us, we have the belief that Bill Finger is the true creator of everything that made Batman great. Here’s why.

Jake Hinkson looks at The Dark Knight Rises and the other two parts of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy: “Unlike the set-bound comic-gothic theatrics of Tim Burton's Batman films or the plastic sex-toy quality of Joel Schumacher's films, Batman Begins is a full on epic.”

Beastie Boys Songs Banned From Adverts

Beastie BoysAdam Yauch's will prevents his music being used in adverts.

The Beastie Boys rapper - known as MCA - passed away from cancer in May aged 47, and his will lists a clause preventing his music or art being used in adverts or promotions. "Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes," it reads. Rolling Stone noted the last part of the line was added in handwriting.

The will also leaves his fortune of $6.4 million to Yauch's wife, Dechen Yauch, and their 13-year-old daughter. Dechen also has the right to sell and manage her husband's artistic property.

It is not clear how the will's wording affects the potential use of Beastie Boys' music in adverts in future, as the band also comprises Adam "Ad Rock" Horovitz and Michael "Mike D" Diamond.

Pink to Perform at the MTV VMAs

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Awards, Music Videos, Performances, Pop,

PinkPink will perform a new song at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The "So What" hitmaker has been added to the line-up of guest performers which also includes Alicia Keys and One Direction and will debut a track from her forthcoming sixth album "The Truth About Love."

Pink says performing at the awards is "extra special" as she was banned from watching music channels when she was younger. "Being a part of the VMAs for me is extra special because my mom never let me used to watch MTV as a little girl. I would watch it anyway but she would also try and ground me but then I would just sneak out my window and go to someone's house that had MTV. So to be on MTV is quite ironic," she said.

This will mark the third time Pink has performed at the awards and she says it is a ceremony she always enjoys: "It's always one of the more enjoyable shows because it's relaxed and it's kind of rock 'n' roll and unpredictable and everyone is having a good time."

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards take place at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Thursday, September 6.

Kristen Stewart Pulls Out of ‘On The Road’ Premiere

Kristen StewartKristen Stewart has reportedly pulled out of the London premiere of her new movie On The Road because she is too embarrassed to appear in public in the wake of her cheating scandal.

The 22-year-old actress was originally planning to walk the red carpet for the film version of Jack Kerouac's classic novel on August 16 - but with her co-star Tom Sturridge, a close friend of Robert Pattinson.

"Kristen won't be doing the red carpet for On The Road - she's too ashamed to show her face in public right now. After everything that has been said, and in light of the revelations that she cheated on Robert with director Rupert Sanders, she's running scared at the moment. There's also the dilemma of standing next to her co-star in the movie, Tom Sturridge. He's very close to Rob and Kristen thinks it would be awkward for her to promote the movie on the red carpet alongside him. Kristen is very proud of her work for On The Road, she grew up reading Kerouac novels and this is a production she always wanted to star in," an insider said.

Kris Jenner and Kim KardashianKris Jenner orchestrated the release of Kim Kardashian's sex tape, a new source claims.

The showbiz matriarch could have deliberately released her daughter's sex tape in 2007 in order to catapult the Kardashian family to stardom, according to a new source who backs the rumors started by Kim's soon-to-be ex-husband Kris Humphries.

"Kris was totally involved in arranging the sale of Kim's tape. The video already existed, and Kris was there every step of the way as a middleman brought in to market it to an adult entertainment company," said a source, who passed a polygraph test.

Savvy businesswoman Kris now manages her six children and husband Bruce Jenner's careers, and the insider claims she approached Vivid Entertainment to market curvy reality star Kim's sex tape to then boyfriend Ray J. "I saw Kris Jenner's signature on the contract; I believe she got somewhere between $250,000 and $500,000 for the original deal with the middleman," the source added.
