OUYA Android game console now up for pre-order on Amazon

OUYA pre-order

OUYA, the Android-based home game console that took Kickstarter by storm, is now available for pre-order on Amazon for those who missed out on the campaign. The cost is $99 for the unit, which includes the OUYA console and one controller. The draw of OUYA is that anyone can develop and publish games for the console, and there's no huge financial barrier to entry for devs. This could mean that there will be just a bunch of random stuff, but it also means that you'll have more developers working on quality games--and for the first time on a home console, you'll likely see games as inexpensive as the ones you play on your iOS and other Android devices. OUYA is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and 1 GB RAM with 8 GB of storage and 1080p output. Pre-order it now for $99 and it'll deliver in June, and don't forget to grab an extra controller.

Ouya Android-based indie game console takes Kickstarter by storm

Ouya game console

Are you bored and tired of the big players in the video game space failing to innovate in truly meaningful ways? Then you'll wanna meet Ouya, the Android-powered game console that will cost just $99 with a controller that connects to your television set just like your Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3 does. The difference? Anyone can develop games for the Ouya console, and there's no huge financial barrier to entry. That means more indie quality indie games, likely much less cheaper than you'd find on other home game consoles. The product is designed by Yves Behar and team, the same folks who dreamed up the designs for the One Laptop Per Child OLPC computer and Jawbone Jambox. On the inside it's powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB RAM, and 8 GB of built-in storage. It also packs 1080p output over HDMI, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Interested? You can head over to the Ouya Kickstarter page to pre-order one now. This could turn out to be a very big deal. Check out a video explaining the project after the break.

Jo-Jo Reyes ties record with 28th-straight winless start

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, News,

Jo-Jo ReyesJo-Jo Reyes of the Toronto Blue Jays took another one on the chin Wednesday afternoon, losing to the New York Yankees. For Reyes, it was his 28thd straight start without getting a win, which ties the mark for most consecutive winless starts set by Cliff Curtis of the Boston Braves in 1910-11 and Matt Keough of the Oakalnd Athletics in 1978-79. Reyes himself, who started with the Atlanta Braves in 2007 and was acquired by the Blue Jays this past offseason after a few years of injuries, hasn’t won a game since June 13, 2008.

Tim Thomas set for record-breaking season in Boston net

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,

Tim ThomasTim Thomas is a perfect 5-0 for the Boston Bruins this year. Despite that, his team sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The problem the Bruins have at this point is Thomas’s backup, Tuukka Rask who is like a yang to Thomas’s yin. Rask is 0-2. Combined, the two goalies have given the Bruins 10 points in seven games. Talk to anyone on the Bruins and they’ll probably tell you that’s not good enough.

Ichiro makes MLB history and Jose Bautista makes Blue Jays history

Felix HernandezIn Thursday’s historic game at Rogers Centre in Toronto, many fantastic accomplishments were achieved. Jose Bautista hit his 50th home run of the season, becoming just the 26th player ever to do so, as well as the first Blue Jay. Ichiro Suzuki rapped two hits, including a single to center field that was his 200th of the season, marking 10 straight years of 200-hits for Ichiro; the first time that’s ever been done by an MLB player. However, some achievements will fly under the radar: the pitching performances.

Pete Rose to be honored by Cincinnati Reds for 25th anniversary

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,

Pete RosePete Rose, baseball’s infamous gambler, still is not – and may never be – in the MLB Hall of Fame. But the former Cincinnati Reds player and manager will be honored by his former club for the 25th anniversary of his breaking Ty Cobb’s all-time career hits total. The Reds received permission from MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to honor the disgraced hitter for just the second time since being banned in 1989. Rose missed out on the Reds honoring of the 1975 World Series champions in 2000 as well as the old-timers softball game commemorating the closing of Cinergy Field in 2002.

Katy Perry Threatens Bosses With Unprotected Sex

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Music, Weddings, Pregnancies,

Katy PerryFrom kissing girls to threatening a pregnancy to her record company, is not the average pop star.

“I’ve told them not to p*** me off and if they continue to push me harder, I’ll just get pregnant. I have the power to have unprotected sex!” Perry said.

The threat comes as she fights what’s in store for her second album’s—which is due out this summer—promotional duties.

Perhaps now we know why Russell Brand is so keen on marrying the resourceful woman! She may want a small wedding, but Katy may be forced to don a larger wedding dress if she gets her wish…

Record-setting overtimes still not enough

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: NHL,

Shootout goalDespite the NHL’s attempt to compress the season in the midst of an Olympic year, it still seems like 2009-10 has been one of the longest seasons in years. That probably has something to do with the fact that there have been a record-setting number of extra-time games. With the final weekend of games to be played, there have been 290 games that have gone past 60 minutes, and another record 177 that have gone to a shootout.

Bringing the boys back home

Shane O'BrienIt’s been a long-time coming. 42 days, 14 games in 13 cities, and 13,000 miles later, the longest road trip in NHL history is officially over. The Canucks are heading back to Vancouver for their first home game since Jan. 27 at the formerly-named Canada Hockey Place. The Canucks went 8-5-1 during the trip which, all things considered, is just about what could be hoped for from the road-weary skaters. After Wednesday’s shootout loss to Phoenix, the only thing any Canuck could possibly want is a night in his own bed.

New Moon Already Breaks Box Office Record

New Moon posterWe all knew that the opening for New Moon was going to be big, but did we actually think it was going to beat out The Dark Knight and Harry Potter? Well, it did.

Rival studios reveal that the latest Twilight film took in an estimated $23-$24 million in midnight screenings alone; this surpasses The Dark Knight‘s $18.4 million record as well as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince‘s $22.2 million. Summit Entertainment has not yet released an official number.

With a record like that, who’s to say that the vampire-werewolf crew can’t tag-team against Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen‘s current #1 spot of the year, at its $108.9 million weekend opening? With Twi-hards’ dedication, they might even give The Dark Knight a run for its money—its weekend opening did $158.4 million at the box office.

Let’s be honest here—who needs viral marketing when you have Edward Cullen and Jacob Black?
