DIY Moldable Mouse

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,

Moldable MouseThere are a lot of ergonomic mice that we think are frankly not all that comfortable, much less saving us a case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Lite-on has developed a concept that you can use to make your own mouse the way that is best for your hands. The prototype is made of modeling clay and covered with nylon and polyurethane so you can give it any shape you desire on its base of PC/ABS recyclable plastic. It also features built-in RFID, a touch sensitive scroll pad, laser optics, and runs on batteries. Hopefully winning the Red Dot Award recently will spur them into making the mouse a reality.

New Zealander Reinvents the Mouse

MouseAlthough it hasn’t changed much since its inception in 1964, Grant Odgers in New Zealand built what he believes to be a better mouse. He will be meeting with Microsoft and perhaps Logitech to show off his Swiftpoint. While sketchy on details, apparently the device is held between the thumb and index finger, and can be used with or without a flat surface. This sounds to us pretty close to the description of a pen, and in fact MS may be considering if it can replace those now used with its tablets. The Swiftpoint will make its debut March 4 at the CeBit in Hanover, Germany.

Kwout Quotes

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Internet,

Kwout has come up with a way to embed a quote into your blog or website (including Flickr and Tumblr) with one click. Simply type an URL onto the home page and click their bookmarklet. Drag your mouse around the area to take the quote from, select color, size and shape, and click the “Cut Out” button. You then receive the quote with hyperlinks and the embed code. It really is quite easy, once you get the hang of moving around your mouse. Others can take your quote and post it on their website as well.

The USB Penguin Optical Mouse

USB Penguin Mouse

Some people are fanatical about Hello Kitty. For others, it’s Star Wars. But for this writer, it’s all about the mighty penguin, as evidenced the penguin MP3 player, USB drive, and shower radio she’s written about, and that fact that she actually owns an iPenguin. This week, it’s the too-cute-for-words USB optical mouse, which fits either hand, and even includes a PS/2 adapter! Choose from Pink, Green, Blue, and of course, Black.  The downside? According to the website, the mouse is only compatible with Windows—but doesn’t state whether it’s compatible with Vista. Available for $14 USD.

Foot MouseThis makes our list for the most ingenious electronic rodent that we have seen in a while. The Foot Mouse (aka Slipper Mouse) is designed for those who either have the need for an alternative mouse, or for those who just want to keep both hands free while they work. Bili Inc. claims that their mouse is perfect for audio/video/movie editors, animators, graphic designers, architects, programmers, etc., but we suspect it may take a bit of time to adapt to the concept. Connectible by USB, the slipper and button pad are available at Bili for both Windows and Mac for $199.00, with a 15.5 x 11-inch mat thrown in as a freebie.
