CES 2008 Video: Ambient Devices Scorecast, Weather Stations

Case Logic showed off a series of bags at this year. Their cases range from protecting the smallest of iPod Nano’s to the largest of Laptops. In this video, we give you a look at bags designed for customization by the user, which included pens and Sharpie markers, as well as stencils to help you…well…make it you. Could you technically write on any bag that you purchase? Sure, but would it be as fun? We’d like to think so, but we are some stencil-needing fools. In any event, check the video out to learn more about these stylish totes.

Wattson Watches Watts

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech,

WattsonDIY KYOTO’s Wattson is finally ready to meet the world. The Wattson instantly reads how much electricity you use either in Watts or amount of money it is costing you. The information is gathered and stored from a transmitter that you attach to your electric meter or fuse box. With its mood LED, it changes colors depending on how much energy you use, with blue for less and red for high consumption. It also features an internal battery pack to make it portable.

Although it has been out for some time in limited release, the device was recently upgraded to show energy usage in Euros, Dollars, Stirling, Yen, and Pounds. Both Mac and Windows compatible, Wattson is available for £149.50 ($297.00.) A bit pricey, but well worth it when you consider the guilt factor.

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech,

Times Square BallReady for New Years Eve? It may interest you to know that finally the Times Square Ball has gone green on its 100th anniversary. Unveiled at Macy’s earlier this month, the ball is constructed of Waterford crystal,  is twice as bright as past ones, and will now have more color and energy-saving LED effects thanks to Philips.

Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance says, “It’s that same spirit of renewal and new beginnings that brings people here from across the globe, in person or in spirit while watching from home, on New Year’s Eve every year.”

We don’t know about that, but it certainly wouldn’t be a proper New Year without it. Have a good one, Gear Livers!

Have a Perfect Power Hour

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech,

Shot CallerThis would be a nice gift to give your buds who boast that they can drink you under the table. The Shot Caller is a timer that will set off a loud buzzer every 60 or 100 minutes. When it goes off, chug a shot of tequilla or down a brew. It also features red, yellow, and green LEDs if you are too dizzy to see the numbers. For those who drink before it issues the signal, this is a good indication that it is not the gift for her/him. With free shipping, the Shot Caller’s creators claim the reason to buy it at $14.99 is because it is less than the cost of one case of beer.
