Willow Smith Dresses Like Billy Idol
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Girls,
Willow Smith cites Billy Idol as her fashion icon.
The "Whip My Hair" hitmaker has developed a keen interest in fashion despite being only 10 years old and admitted the 1980s "White Wedding" singer's look is the one she loves to imitate.
"I love Billy Idol with the leather and all the studs and black," Willow said when asked who influences her style.
Despite her young age, Willow has already sat in the front row at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year and revealed while she doesn't know a lot about the industry, she can appreciate the designer labels:
"Milan Fashion Week was fun because I saw how the designers are all so different. Say Dolce and Gabbana, most of their designs were delicate and more fitted but compared to someone else like Ferragamo their stuff was different. Ha I don't know a lot about fashion."

Naked Christian Louboutin Shoe Test
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty,
Christian Louboutin measures how good his shoes are by what they look like on a naked woman. The footwear designer says any good shoe should be able to make a female body look sexy without the help of any clothes.
“The ultimate must still look good when a woman is naked. The design that encapsulates my career is the Pigalle, a low-cut, high-heeled pump. It’s so subtle in that it adds something sexy to the body, but you don’t immediately realize that it’s the shoe that is making the difference.”
Christian says his obsession with shoes came after seeing showgirls wear them: “My interest in shoes came from showgirls. Apart from feathers, there is nothing else to the outfit than their shoes. I thought about being a shoe designer when I was about 12-years-old, but it wasn’t until I was in my mid-teens that I realized it could be my real job.”
Christian - whose high-heeled designs have become a favorite among a host of celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss - recently claimed a good pair of shoes help transform a woman’s attitude. “When women put on a pair of beautiful shoes they instantly hold themselves differently. Shoes transform your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally. I remember watching a Spanish woman in my shop try on some heels. She instantly stood up taller, her chest went out and her shoulders went back. She told her friend that they were better than a face lift.”
Bjork on McQueen’s Death Obsession
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Bjork thinks Alexander McQueen had a “connection” with death.
The 40-year-old British designer took his own life on the eve of his mother’s funeral in February and the Icelandic singer thinks his “daredevil” tendencies made him a better designer.
“I felt Lee’s raw connection with nature and birth and death was very refreshing. When I moved to London, being from Iceland, I sometimes found the self-importance in the UK’s obsession with the decay of its empire boring, to insist the whole world is dying with them. Lee had so many ideas that he overcame this dilemma with fertility, raw gusto, sense of fun and courage. He was the kind of daredevil that looks death and birth straight in the eye.”
Bjork - who dressed as an angel and performed a heartfelt rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday” at the designer’s memorial service last month - also posted a moving tribute on her website: “dear lee, i can´t stop thinking how both fierce and feeble you are , it is difficult to grasp this, my condolences go out to your family and friends and all your team who must be all trying to fathom this. Stella McCartney wants women to have fun when wearing her clothes.
The designer says she has always been inspired by the female body and constantly has them in made when creating her outfits, because she is keen for ladies to look stylish without feeling restricted.
“Women are always my inspiration. This season, it specifically refining the silhouette. Most women have a very controlled, restrained part of their personality but we also want to have fun, feel youthful and sensual - it was really about the balance between the two.”
As well as her more formal clothes, Stella also has her own range for Adidas and she is keen for women to look and feel good when they work out: “I want to offer women something they can work out in and also feel good in. I don’t want to be ashamed of what I’m wearing to the gym because it’s ‘women’s gear’ and not as cutting edge technically as men’s, but equally I want to feel stylish.”
Sarah Burton Opens Up About Future McQueen Collections
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News,

After her initial words upon accepting the head designer role at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton has kept fairly quiet—until now. Burton, who was hired at McQueen before she was even a graduate at Central Saint Martin’s, talks about her mentor and boss, as well as what her plans are going forward with the label.
One thing she is not continuing are the extravagant, grandiose shows McQueen was known for: “That was very much Lee’s territory—the spectacular show… In that way, I can’t try and pretend to be Lee.”
She is, however, staying true to the designer’s affinity for the macabre and sex.

Dolce & Gabbana Think Weddings, Prada Lightens Up
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News,
Dolce & Gabbana put on a wedding dress-inspired collection in their Milan Fashion Week show yesterday.
The Italian designers sent models down the catwalk in see-through white lace pieces, with modesty guarded by Bridget Jones-style underwear.
The show was in complete contrast to Prada‘s collection, which saw a vibrant array of colored dresses and suits sashaying their way down the runway. Reds, oranges, dark greens and deep blues made up the majority of the outfits - as well as an unusual banana print - while voluminous arms seem to be a key-trend. They did, however, also have a selection of black dresses to satisfy their more traditional customer.
Kylie Minogue, Naomi Campbell and Jada Pinkett Smith were among the big-name stars in attendance at the Italian Spring/Summer 2011 shows, taking in the likes of Jil Sander, Bottega Veneta and Fendi. Fashionistas will next be heading to Paris for the French capital’s runway shows, with collections from Gareth Pugh, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Christian Dior, Celine and Chanel all taking place this week.
Jonathan Saunders Thanks His Upbringing
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News,
Fashion designer Jonathan Saunders says his Jehovah’s Witness upbringing pushed him to succeed in the clothing industry.
The Scottish-born designer - who wowed critics with his floral designs for Spring/Summer 2011 at London Fashion Week - admitted he hasn’t spoken to his religious parents since he left home at the age of 16 to pursue a career in fashion.
“You have to go without something to really want it. I’m quite thankful for my upbringing because of that. It pushed me to get what I want,” said Jonathan, who is renowned for his edgy geometric designs.
The 32-year-old also revealed that moving into the world of design was a shock to the system after a fashion-free childhood. Speaking about his time studying at the Glasgow School of Art, he explained, “Even the physical environment of the art school was influential - it was my first introduction to modernism.”
However he found his time at Central Saint Martins - where he graduated with an MA in printed designs - even tougher. “It was the biggest awakening. They embrace frivolity. It was a whole other level of fashion that was fascinating to me and I felt completely out of my depth,” he added.
Fashion Police: The Hulk Inspires Bjork
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, News,

Much to no one’s surprise, eccentric musician Bjork recently attended a red carpet premiere in an outlandish green
dress.
Don’t get me wrong—I was one of the few who liked the Oscar swan dress! Maybe if the dress were more form-fitting, the singer wouldn’t look like a bloated little sister of the Hulk. Then again, it probably wouldn’t be something that Bjork would fancy. I do, however, like the gradient tights and chunky ankle boots.
Is this another fashion mishap for Bjork or a misunderstood fashion triumph?

Nicky Hilton to Launch Jewelry Line
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News, Jewelry,
Moving on from her handbag designing, Nicky Hilton has created a costume jewelry collection.
The 26-year-old heiress, who has previously designed handbags and had her own clothing line, has fulfilled a long-held ambition by teaming up with Titan Brands for the “affordable” range.
“I’m a crazy jewelry collector. I’ve always known since I was a teenager that I wanted to do a line. Whenever I bought something, whether at a flea market in Paris or a bazaar in India, I’ve been collecting pieces.”
Nicky claims she has been approached by “tons and tons” of different firms but only agreed a deal when she met Chad C. Haggar, Titan Brands’ CEO.: “He really shared my vision of high quality without the high price tags.”
The line is divided into three collections, Art Deco - which is inspired by jewelry worn by her mother and grandmother - the classic Deco pieces in Spike, and Snakes, which is described as “contemporary edgy.” Priced wholesale from $35 to $480, the range will be sold exclusively through Endless.com from the autumn, before Nicky embarks on plans to expand though department and specialty stores.
Russia Inspired Chanel Couture
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Models, News,
Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld took his inspiration from Russia for the Chanel Couture show in Paris yesterday.
Models walked down a specially created runway at the Grand Palais in the French capital - walking out of a lion holding a giant pearl - in shades of maroon, brown, white and pink.
Although not a huge departure from what Chanel is known for - classical, flattering cuts in various tweeds - it was a solid collection, with fur-trimmed collars and cuffs teamed with mid-calf boots and seeming inspiration taken from Faberge eggs. Waistlines were kept high and shoulders boxy, with arms billowing, and as the show progressed, sequins and ornate detailing came in abundance.
The final model to walk down the runway was Karl Lagerfeld’s male model of the moment Baptiste Giabiconi, who donned a lion’s head mask while wearing the style of suit favored by the German-born designer - a black trouser and blazer combination worn with a high-necked white shirt.
Others to put on shows yesterday include Givenchy, who provided a decadent and glamorous collection and Giorgio Armani Prive, who worked a serious and sexy business-like chic.
