Thanksgiving TurkeyThanksgiving Day is all about eating, and what goes perfectly with any meal? Plenty of TV – and all the major networks and cable channels will provide you with a feast this year, even despite the that has changed Primetime TV

NBC promises traditional holiday fare with the annual (a long-standing Turkey Day event). This will be later followed by - the version - which is a movie always worth watching. (I make it a point to watch this flick at least once every holiday season – it’s one of those must-holiday-haves, like .)

Or, you can take a small deviation from long-standing tradition with CBS, which will be showing an alternate Thanksgiving Day parade.  A handful of episodes follow, but don’t worry – football starts at 2:00 pm.  Meanwhile, FOX starts broadcasting their own action at noon with Green Bay and Detroit.

‘Magorium’ Reviews Take the Wonder out of Hoffman Flick

Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman in Mr. Magorium's Wonder EmporiumThe early reviews are in, and the results for Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium aren’t good. A single flick in a long line of holiday movies, Magorium’s has a promising cast and offers enchanting special effects, but the reviewers don’t like Dustin Hoffman’s hair, on-screen persona, or choice in movie roles.

Hoffman plays the 243-year-old Mr. Magorium, the owner/operator of an enchanted toy shop. Okay, sounds all right so far. Enter , who plays a self-effacing young woman without a lot of confidence. Sure, that’s believable. The magical toys dance around the shop, the children delight in the sights and sounds of the Emporium, and the plot of the movie reveals itself pretty early on. Magorium is retiring and wants to turn the shop over to his assistant, lovely Portman. That’s it. That’s the plot. The whole movie is about whether or not Portman’s character will be able to fill Magorium’s wacky, wild shoes. Then, of course, there are the effects of the dancing toys. Take all that, and you have Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which comes to theaters this weekend.

Entertainment Weekly called the movie “really, really bad.” I think that about sums it up.

Unreal Tournament 3 For PlayStation 3 Delayed Until 2008

Unreal Tournament 3

Midway announced today in a press release that the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, originally scheduled to release with the PC version this November as a timed console exclusive, isn’t expected to be released until the first quarter of 2008. David F. Zucker, president and CEO of Midway, said he regretted having to lose the holiday sales from the delays but said, “[W]e remain confident that our technology strategy and product plan position us to grow both revenue and market share as we move into the heart of this console cycle.”

Developer Epic Games’ Mark Rein said in a forum post that the press release included UT3 as an obligation to investors and said that he was still optimistic about a 2007 release, but that they wouldn’t ship until the game was ready and “the best game (they could) deliver.” He also confirmed that the PC version, due out in November, was still on schedule to ship as planned.

Guitar Hero III on Mac and PCIt took several years but the marketability of the popular console series Guitar Hero couldn’t go unnoticed by the PC side of gaming for very long and today Aspyr Media announced that it will be bringing Activision‘s Guitar Hero III to PC and Mac in time for the holiday season.

Dusty Welch, head of publishing at Red Octane, said in a statement to GameDaily BIZ: “Providing the option for our fans to play Guitar Hero at their desk or on a laptop on the go is incredibly exciting, and we’re thrilled to now offer the ability to rock out literally anywhere and everywhere.”

The PC version will ship with a USB guitar controller based on an as-yet unannounced Gibson model. Aspyr is planning on offering some type of download service but declined to reveal any specific details of how that would be handled saying, “We hope to have a very exciting announcement soon.” At this stage Aspyr is still conducting compatibility tests and hasn’t solidified the system requirements but stressed that they were aiming to make the game accessible to the widest audience possible.

GameStop’s Holiday Sales Top $1.7 Billion

GameStop It looks like enforced bundles of the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii, along with strong holiday sales have boosted GameStops financials, as the company raised guidance for their fourth quarter and full year results. GameStop reports that total sales for the holiday season reached $1.73 billion. The top five video game releases for the holiday season were:

  • Gears of War
  • Final Fantasy XII
  • Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Guitar Hero II
  • WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2007

Interestingly, no Playstation 3 title made the list, but two Playstation 2 titles did, along with one Xbox 360 release, one combination Wii/Gamecube release, and one multi-platform title in Smackdown. Console shortages might have limited the revenue that the company received from next generation releases, but this would seem to be one more data point indicating that the Playstation 2 will still be a sales monster into the coming year.

Moore Believes Xbox 360 Ahead Of Projections

Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Xbox 360,

Peter Moore Microsoft has continually stated that they expected to ship 10 million Xbox 360 consoles worldwide by the end of the year. Now, it looks like Microsoft will beat that estimate, according to Microsoft Vice President Peter Moore. Moore cites stronger than expected sales through the Thanksgiving holiday, probably in part due to Sony’s complete inability to meet their shipment targets. A fair amount of pent-up demand for the Playstation 3 has probably shifted to the Xbox 360, given the difficulty in finding any consoles for sale for the average person. Gears of War also probably contributed to the gains, particularly given the excellent reviews the title has received.
