If you are a two iPod family, or have one and an iPhone, you will appreciate JVC’s Dual Play System. The NX-PN7 portable audio system can play/charge two music players simultaneously. The device features an AM/FM tuner, Sound Turbo, full-range speakers and a multi-color illuminated LED display. At a size of 12-9/16 x 5-7/8 x 6-1/8-inches and a weight of 5.8 lbs., the system has an analog audio input, a headphone output, and comes with remote for a price of $149.99.

Intempo Digital has released the Rebel, a nifty little device that samples FM music from stations and saves up to forty of the most often repeated tracks as MP3 files. Even better, it cuts out annoying advertising and over-talky DJs. With its line-in jack you simply plug into DAB or Internet radio, then download to your cell phone or MP3 player. At a size of 195 x 80 x 70mm and a weight of 1kg, you can connect the Rebel by USB. The self-censoring digital music gadget is available for £69.99 (~$109.00.)

Takara Tomy Hi-Kara Portable Karaoke Machine

Takara Tomy is releasing a portable karaoke system designed for musically inclined kidlets, although we suspect older crooners will want one, too. The Hi-kara features a 2.4-inch LCD screen with a video and song lyrics. Available in pink or white, the 7cm cube allows the songsters to hear/sing through a headphones/microphone combination. Although preloaded cartridges will be available, blank ones will also be offered. Out October 18, the Hi-kara runs on 4 AA batteries for about 4 1/2 hours of use and will carry a price of ¥10,500 ($97.00.)

It’s not often we bring you iPod devices that are only for the monetarily endowed, but this Phonofone II was too much to pass up. The device transforms your tunes through passive amplification into designer Tristan Zimmermann’s form of music, about 55 decibels worth. Crafted of ceramic, it carries dimensions of 11 x 9.5 x 20-inches and supports fullsize iPods and minis. Recommended for fans of the blues, and classical and folk music, note that those with shuffles or nanos need a headphone amp. Mr. Zimmermann’s Limited Edition black creation will set you back $600.00.

Chances are you won’t be discovered at a drug store counter or the corner pub that showcases local bands, but now you have a better chance at this new website, the City of Fame. Upload your music videos or screen tests and perhaps you will be noticed, not that we think a lot of agents will be hanging on the site. Still, it is a step up from YouTube and MySpace. Registration is free and we wonder, if you make it, will the site ask for a percentage?

Download podcasts without a PC with the Castgrabber. Get yourself a network, plug in your iPod, Zune, or other MP3 player via USB cable. The device magically and automatically downloads. We are not sure exactly how that happens although the company says that it is similar to TiVo and that installation is simple when you select through iTunes software or any other Net sites of your choice. It also acts as a recharging dock while it does its thing. We found the Castgrabber at the online Home Depot for $119.95.

Tired of your ringtones? Jagamaga.mobi offers free mobile media that includes tunes from such artists as Danger Mouse, Enrico Caruso, and Zap Mama. All of them are licensed under Creative Commons, and Andreas Mehrens has put them together in hopes of promoting lesser known artists, although we are pretty sure most people have heard of Caruso. Then again, we may be dating ourselves. There are also some pretty cool sound effects. No need to register, simply check them out and take your choice.

When an employee tried to order a special CD-DVD of REM’s “Accelerate” for the Fred Meyer’s retail chain, he(she) mistakenly entered “LP.” Sure enough, vinyl records showed up at many of the stores. While some sent them back, others kept the 20 records and sold out the next day. Because of the good results, the chain, owned by the Kroger Co., are now selling them at 60 of its stores in the Alaska, Oregon, California, and Washington. Abbey Road tops their best-seller list. We think that is a fine idea, since we miss the sound of music on vinyl, and hope they give that employee a raise.
