Alice Chess Set

Yasmin Sethi’s Chess Set was inspired by the classic novel “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” In the novel, the heroine becomes a human chess piece. Yasmin’s pieces are opaque until they are placed on the surface of the board. Then they become transparent. They are made of LightPoints, a glass material with LEDs. The designer says that his creation has a point.

“This is a comment on how a chess piece has no value unless it is in play on the board. If removed from the board, a pawn and a queen are equal, in that neither have any value.”

Hmmm. Very deep stuff. Fans of the Lewis Carroll novel will also appreciate the White Knights that only function when they are upside down.

hoops and yoyo CardHallmark’s new line of greeting cards sounds like too much interaction for us. The company has had those with music and spoken lines out for a while now, and has added to the audio cards with small handles that you turn to automate them. These cards are going to set you back $7.99 each and are obviously going to cost you some extra postage if you want to mail them. Still, we admit we do have some affection for hoops and yoyo.

Ian UsherTalk about depressing. Ian Usher was obviously devastated when his wife left him since he decided to auction off his life on eBay. The Australian resident was hoping to raise $475,000.00 to make a fresh start. The package included most of his worldly possessions and a chance to take over his job. The first day it appeared that the bids went as high as $2.1 million. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a glitch in the system, so when all was said and done the highest bid was only $233,000. While that is only about half of what he would have liked, that seems enough to make a pretty decent start.

Remote Buddy

Every time we get a new gadget we get a new remote. While we suppose a universal one should be in order, we prefer the simplicity of the Remote Buddy. It holds up to 4 remotes with a cup holder for your fave brew. The outstanding thing about this is that it has one-touch buttons in case you lose one of the controls. Made of plastic, the 16 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 3 1/2-inch holder carries a MSRP of $59.98.

Aerogarden 3We now have tomatophobia, seriously. Because of all the tainted fruits (yes, tomatoes are fruit,) not being able to be traced (since produce doesn’t generally have RFID tags on them,) we stopped eating them unless they are locally grown. Now you can grow your own with AeroGarden’s latest model. It features a Deluxe-Grow Bulb which they promise will deliver faster germination, more growth and higher amounts of yield. At a size of 9 1/2 x 11 x 20-inches, the AeroGarden 3 comes with 3 seed kits for $99.95.

Wan Love Yu

IDEC has released its hi-tech Wan Love Yu (”Dog Love Bath”,) which does without shampoo. Instead it utilizes a shower head that discharges water with about half a million air bubbles per cubic centimeter. With technology used by industrial water treatment systems, the bubbles are small enough to remove dirt and odors from a pup’s skin and hair follicles. The 27.5 x 27.5 x 43cm jacuzzi and hose combination goes on sale this week at a price somewhere between 600,000 and ¥700,000 (~$6,000.00 to $7,000.00.)
