Amazon selling new MacBook Pros at a discount

Hey, so you know those new Core i5 and i7 MacBook Pros that launched yesterday? If you are looking to pick one up, you should definitely check Amazon, as they’ve got a nice discount on all models, across the board. Here’s the breakdown:
- 13-inch MC374LL/A - $1,159.99 ($40 off)
- 13-inch MC375LL/A - $1,449.99 ($50 off)
- 15-inch MC371LL/A - $1,739.99 ($60 off)
- 15-inch MC372LL/A - $1,929.99 ($70 off)
- 15-inch MC373LL/A - $2099.99 ($100 off)
- 17-inch MC024LL/A - $2199.99 ($100 off)
Definitely not bad at all, even on the least expensive models - especially when you factor in the fact that Amazon doesn’t charge sales tax to a majority of locations that they ship to.

Apple delays international iPad sales by a month due to US demand

Looks like even Apple was caught off-guard a bit by how popular the iPad has been since the launch in the US, as the company announced earlier this morning that the international launch of the device has been delayed by a month. Apple says that more than 500,000 iPads have been sold in the first week of availability in the US, and to keep up with demand, Europe will now see the iPad in May, rather than the “late April” that was previously announced.

Apple updates MacBook Pro line with Intel Core i5 and i7 processors

It’s been a long time coming, but Apple has finally released the refreshed line of MacBook Pro notebooks that are powered by the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The 13-inch MacBook Pro line is actually sticking with the Core 2 Duo chips, but they do bring faster 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz options, alongside a 10-hour battery. The real news here, though, is in the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros. The 15-inch models start at $1,799 with a 2.4GHz Core i5 (520M), 320GB hard drive, 8-9 hour battery, and the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics chip which features Optimus switching. That allows the graphics chip to automatically switch from performance mode to a low power mode on the fly, rather than having to log out and back in. The next step up in the 15-inch line nabs you a 2.53GHz Core i5 (540M) and 500GB hard drive for $1,999, while the top of the line model features the 2.66 GHz Core i7 (620M) and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512MB RAM.
If the 17-incher is more your thing, it starts out at $2,299 with a 2.53GHz Core i5, 500GB hard drive, ExpressCard slot, and the 512MB 330M. Options for all include more RAM (they all come with 4GB by default,) and 128, 256, and 512GB SSD drives. The 15-inch models also have new display options. By default, they ship with a 1440x900 glossy display, but for an extra $100 you can get a high resolution 1680x1050 display. For another $50 on top of that, you can get the 1680x1050 with antiglare. Lastly, the new machines are capable of “inertial scrolling” on the trackpads. If you have an iPhone, it’s similar to flicking up and down to scroll.

iPad review: An in-depth look at the Apple tablet

When Apple finally revealed the iPad to the world back at their January 27th event, it was a long time coming for many an Apple fan. After almost three years with the iPhone around, everyone figured it was time for Apple to unleash a full-sized, proper tablet. However, time and time again the rumor mill was incorrect, as Apple Event after Apple Event came and went with nary a mention of a tablet device. So when the announcement finally came, and when pre-orders finally were being taken, many prepped to grab the iPad on day one. That day came on April 3 with the launch of the Wi-Fi iPad in the United States, which you can now purchase at the Apple Online Store.
The hype has been off the charts, so let’s step back for a minute and examine this thing. The iPad sits somewhere between the iPhone juggernaut and the ridiculously popular MacBook. Many have said that it is simply a “big iPod touch” and nothing more. Apple has called it “magical and revolutionary.” Who’s right?

Apple unveiling iPhone OS 4 on April 8th

Hot on the hells of the iPad launch, Apple is continuing fell speed ahead, as they’ve invited a select group of media to come get a look at the unveiling of iPhone OS 4.0. As you can see in the image, the invite has a shadow of a large number “4” figure, and invites us to “Get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS.” The event takes place at the Cupertino campus, it’s just 3 days away, and we are excited. You?

Apple retail stores selling reserved iPads at 9 am this Saturday

Hey, are you one of those future iPad owners who decided to do an in-store reservation rather than relying on FedEx to get your new bundle of joy to you on day one? If so, here’s the scoop on how things will go down at your local Apple Store this Saturday, when the iPad will finally be unleashed. On April 3, Apple Stores will open at 9:00 am, at which time anyone standing in line with an iPad reservation will get to walk in and pay for their device. Apple will hold all iPads in stock for reservations until 3:00 pm that same day. After 3:00, all iPads that are left are fair game, and anyone can walk in and buy one, until they are all gone. So if you reserved and hoped to get one right away, make sure your calendar is clear this Saturday morning or afternoon, mmkay?

iTunes 9.1 now available with iPad and iBooks goodness

Apple has just unleashed iTunes 9.1 into the wild, and with it comes the ability to sync your iPad, as well as the ability to start managing ebooks. Interestingly enough, it looks like the iBooks store will only be accessible on the iPad itself, and not within iTunes, if we are understanding this correctly:
- Sync with iPad to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on the go
- Organize and sync books you’ve downloaded from iBooks on iPad or added to your iTunes library
- Rename, rearrange, or remove Genius Mixes
Remember, iTunes does support DRM-free ePub ebooks also, so if you have any, feel free to add them to your iTunes library after installing 9.1!

Mac OS X 10.6.3 released, causes problems for some

Apple finally released Mac OS X 10.6.3 yesterday morning, aimed at providing fixes that enhance the stabilit and security of your Mac, but it seems that a few people are experiencing some major issues after installing. On the bright side, we’ve heard that manually downloading the update, rather than bringing it in using Software Update, results in no problems at all. Here’s the quick list of fixes you’ll find in 10.6.3:
- improve the reliability and compatibility of QuickTime X
- address compatibility issues with OpenGL-based applications
- address an issue that causes background message colors to display incorrectly in Mail
- resolve an issue that prevented files with the # or & characters in their names from opening in Rosetta applications
- resolve an issue that prevented files from copying to Windows file servers
- improve performance of Logic Pro 9 and Main Stage 2 when running in 64-bit mode
- improve sleep and wake reliability when using Bonjour wake on demand
- address a color issue in iMovie with HD content
- improve printing reliability
- resolve issues with recurring events in iCal when connected to an Exchange server
- improve the reliability of 3rd party USB input devices
- fix glowing, stuck, or dark pixels when viewing video from the iMac (Late 2009) built-in iSight camera
You can go ahead and grab it now if you’re running Snow Leopard.

Seton Hill University to give iPads to all full-time students

Looks like Apple’s hopes that colleges and universities around the country will adopt the iPad as an educational tool may be coming to fruition. Seton Hill University, based in Greenburg, Pennsylvania, has just made it public knowledge that they will be giving all full-time students an iPad, starting with the next upcoming fall semester. Other schools have tried this with the Kindle, but in our opinion, the slowness of the Kindle screen refresh kind of killed that one. We don’t know that the iPad will fare much better, but it certainly has a better shot at success.
