MLB2K6Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the MLB Player’s Association, Take-Two Interactive, and Massive Incorporated have reached a deal to include dynamic advertisements in 2K Sports latest release, Major League Baseball 2K6. Potentially, this agreement could lead to advertisements appearing in other sports games under the 2K Sports brand.

It is not known at this time how the advertisements will appear in-game; potentially these could appear in-game as advertisements around the ballpark, as well as during between inning interstitials. How obtrusive these ads are will greatly impact player’s acceptance of the advertising. It is also doubtful that monetizing advertising in this way will result in a savings for the gamer buying the titles, as well. Also, if the advertisements replace stadium-based banners and decoration, would the companies paying money to display their corporate logos in the physical locations have some say in how these are displayed virtually?

Fight Night Round 3

What a beautiful game. I don’t buy EA games on principle, so this is one that I’ve had sent by GameFly, but Fight Night Round 3 is just amazing looking. I’m having a ton of fun with it, too, as my wife would attest to after hearing me heckle the other pugilists with ridiculous nicknames like “The Body Snatcher”. (Not that my nickname of “The Professional” is much better.) I sat there last night threatening to send The Body Snatcher home in a body bag, stuff like that.

I normally shy away from the idea of creating fighters in my own image, since I’m not that attractive a guy, but for some reason I decided to make my fighter in the career mode look just like me. I started out pretty pudgy, but as I’ve trained and gained in skill, I’ll be damned if I don’t look like I’m chisled out of granite.

Rumble RosesBeing that the Xbox 360s only current wrestling game is exclusively available in Japan, we have to settle for Rumble Roses XX here in the States until THQ and Midway release their grapplers to get in on the action. Of course, Konami is alaos working on a follow-up to Rumble Roses, dubbed Rumble Roses XX. They have just released a trailer of the game, which shows off a lot of T and A, along with a bit of the games mechanics. Of course, Rumble Roses XX is a bit over-the-top as it pertains to a wrestling title.

Tony Hawk Downhill JamIn a recent announcement, Activision declared that it would take Tony Hawk down a new road; specifically, into a Downhill Jam. The new Tony Hawk title, Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam, is slated to be released within the next year - most likely during the holiday season. According to IGN, the title will be geared toward a younger audience.

I bet the main idea behind a move to a younger audience is as follows - Activision has the Hawk license for another ten years or so. Since sequels haven’t been selling as well recently, Activision might have decided to leave the Hawk license for the kids - who have always strongly latched onto celebrities and IPs - while reallocating assets to create new titles/IPs for the slightly older gamers who are becoming burned out on sequel after sequel.

Additionally, I’d expect THDJ to be a bit more linear in level structure. Downhill Jam was one of the levels in the original THPS where you basically skated down a linear venue. Certainly not one of my favorite levels in the series, but I’m still curious as to how this new title will turn out.

Football Manager 2006An upcoming SEGA title, Football Manager 2006, will require the 360 HDD to play. If you take a look at the link, you’ll notice that the game is actually European football - soccer to those of us stateside. So while it looks like the title isn’t official for the U.S. market, I’d still expect it to come out here. At any rate, the HDD-required goes against what Microsoft previously said when the company announced it’s dual SKU strategy. If you can recall, Microsoft explicitly said that you wouldn’t need a hard drive to play any games. Whoops.

EA Price CutsJust recently, EA announced a number of price cuts for recently released games. The Street reports that prices on games ranging from Madden ‘06 to NBA Live ‘06 to Need For Speed: Most Wanted have all be cut $10 or $20. Of course, the price cuts are only for games on current generation consoles, so you’ll still have to pay $60 if you’d like to get an EA game on Xbox 360. Otherwise though, the price cuts are good news - if you’ve been holding off on getting Need For Speed: Most Wanted, or any other EA game, now might be the time to run out and spend that gift card you received for the holidays.

Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, FIFA 06, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and PC versions are all now going for $29.99. Furthermore, Need for Speed Most Wanted is now $39.99 and Medal of Honor: European Assault is a low $19.99.

Super Mario Strikers Review PlayfeedOkay, so let’s be real for a second. Mario is one talented plumber. He somehow manages to hang on to that day job while stomping giant mutant turtles (of the non-ninja variety), making time to party with his friends, and taking part in just about every sport known to man. Most recently, that would be soccer. We gave you an early preview of Super Mario Strikers when we went hands on with it at E3 2005. We have finally played through every part of the finished product that we can, and we are back to give you the scoop on whether Mario continues with another super game, or if he strikes out.

American Wasteland

While some gamers have complained over the years about the Tony Hawk series and a supposed “lack of originality,” the series is still selling surprisingly well - apparently not everyone feels that the games have become stale. I, for one, have always been a huge fan of the Hawk series and I really enjoyed American Wasteland. While some other Xbox/PS2/Gamecube Activision games haven’t sold as well as expected, it looks like Hawk’s probably at least meeting expectations. Activision also had a big hit on their hands with Call of Duty 2, the biggest seller at the Xbox 360 launch.

Description Get onto your Xbox 360 right now to download the Fight Night 3 demo. EA just put the demo up and it’s incredible. Even though I’m only playing it on a standard definition television, I’m floored by how great it looks. I wish I could see it on an HDTV though! But in the meantime, whether or not you’ve played the previous games in the series, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.
