Mr. Burns Webcam for the Simpsons Fanatic

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, PC / Laptop,
What “Simpsons” fan doesn’t love the loathsome, evil—and hysterically funny—Mr. Burns? But it’s another thing to actually have him watch over you 24/7 in the form of a webcam, which is why we think this gadget is for the uber-fan only. The camera’s resolution is 640x480, capturing 30 frames per second. It also comes with two different sized clips, so you can use it on any monitor. The cam plays well with SKYPE, IM software from MSN, Yahoo and AIM and everything from Windows 98 through Vista. But the piece de resistance? Sitting on Mr. Burns’ desk is none other than…Bobo! He being Mr. Burns’ beloved childhood teddy bear, and the subject of one of the best Simpsons episodes ever. Available for $50 USD.

Unboxing: eneloops Are Awesome!

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Misc. Tech, Portable Audio / Video, Product Reviews,
The results are in. If you want some decent rechargeable batteries, Sanyo’s eneloops are the way to go. We do a lot of Flipvideoing and lately have been doing some extensive audio interviews, so it came down to purchasing a gazillion batteries from our local dollar store or finding some decent rechargeables that would last more than 12 hours.
While we found plenty of them for very little bucks, we learned a long time ago not to rely on any name in electronics that was unfamiliar. That being said, on a budget less than $39.95 we had our choice of Sony or the eneloops. Since Sony doesn’t have the greatest track record for batteries, we decided to test drive the latter, which comes with four AAs. Full details after the jump.

OMG! They Made Kenny Into a Cell Phone Cover!

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Smartphones,
We have found many elegant covers for cell phones, as well as those that are functional enough to keep them protected against the evils of your pocket change. Now we have discovered some that are almost charming. Annie’s Costume Company carries a monkey, manatee, frog, pig, lobster, and the Tazmanian Devil of Warner Bros. fame, but we are definitely partial to Kenny. The stretchable covers fit most mobile phones including Nokia, Motorola, AT&T, Sprint, Samsung, Kyocera, Panasonic, and Audiovox. Look for a $10.95 price.

Speakers Resemble Giant Earbuds

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Apple, Misc. Tech, Portable Audio / Video,

We guess we aren’t the only ones who fret that we might lose our iPod buds in our ear canals. Witness the 500XL Desktop Speakers with a built-in amplifier and powered by batteries or AC adapter (not included.) While we are afraid that there may be some feedback involved with the placement, we think that at the very least we wouldn’t have to be worried that we left them in our pocket or in the car. Pre-order for the MSRP of $39.99 from perpetual kid.

It’s not like we never mention the iPhone around here, so we felt it only fitting to toss in an accessory for the gadget. The Motorola 6x optical zoom lens might be a possibility. This simple clear case clicks over the camera and its eye on your phone’s back. It might look a little weird but at $15.00, it’s worth a shot (pun intended.) The lens will work with many other models of cell phones as well. Let us know your results should you try one out.

Wiffinders Seek Signals

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Internet, Misc. Tech, Wireless / WiFi,
First came the Wifi shirt. If that’s in the laundry, you might consider Soyntec’s University Backpack, Executive Bag, 200 Urban bag, or 500 Trolley suitcase that can do the same thing. The Wiffinders are made of nylon, will house most laptops, and will seek out WiFi signals wherever they are lurking. They all feature plenty of compartments for your other electronic necessities and quilted straps. Look for prices between $50.00 and $100.00, and contact Soyntec for availability.

I-Jerry Makes Music Sitting Down

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Design, Misc. Tech, Music, Portable Audio / Video,
Made by I-Mu, I-Jerry is a rodent-like MP3 Player with 1 GB memory. Control him by the ear, and get ready for his bottom which, when placed on a surface, turns it into a speaker. The company also features an i-Pig, an i-Bird, and a basic design that does the same thing, but we have to admit we are partial to the mouse. Visit the i-Mu site and find out there is more to music than sound, it’s a philosophy. Expect an arrival later this year at a $99.00 price.
