Mac handle-it Multipurpose Heat Sink, Handle, and Stand

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Apple, PC / Laptop,
File this under “Why didn’t we think of that?” The case-mate handle-it is designed for Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro, and PowerBook G4 notebooks. Crafted out of premium leather and 6061 aircraft aluminum, the handle doubles as a conduit for by becoming a passive heat sink. When you want to set your Mac down, the handle becomes an ergonomically-designed notebook stand. Available in black or white, we think this is a nifty idea for only $49.00.

If you’re a woman with a thing for gadgets (raising hand), your handbag can get a little, well, cluttered. Our iPod, cell phone, PSP or DS and our beloved-but-defunct Tapwave Zodiac have all fought for space amongst all the other stuff in our bag (make-up, magazines, wallet, etc.). Help has arrived with the Purse Organizer, which, when expanded, surrounds the perimeter of your handbag, and holds your gadgetry (or whatever) in six different pockets in a variety of sizes. Changing bags? Just roll up the Purse Organizer and it’s good to go. Available for $15 USD.

USB Aquarium Has Fish That Won’t Go Belly-up

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, USB, Misc. Tech,
Another USB Powered Aquarium has hit the market, this time brought to you by USB.brando. The gimmick here is that you really don’t have to worry about overfeeding since the fish are merely toys with hinged tails and what the company refers to as “life-like motion.” The Interactive menu on included software permits you to feed your fish, play with them, and turn the LED nightlight on and off. At a size of 11.2 x 11.2 x 8.8 cm, it is compatible with Windows 2000/XP. The MSRP of $23.00 makes it a viable contender in the aquatic gadget market, especially when you consider you won’t have to eventually flush the little guys away.

Intimidate Your Co-workers with the USB Bouncer

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, PC / Laptop, Toys,

Don’t you hate it when you return to your cubicle after lunch—and find that someone’s either been on your computer or “borrowed” your stapler? Well to protect your privacy and precious office supplies, we suggest the USB Bouncer. The tuxedoed brute is motion-activated, and says a variety of bouncer-esque phrases when someone comes near, such as “You’re cruisin’ for a bruisin’”, “You’re not welcome ‘ere”, “Not today, mate”, and more. While the USB Bouncer can’t physically stop a potential pilferer, we think he’ll at least scare the bejesus out of said intruder, and that’s good enough for us. Available for $20 USD.

Shred Documents Anytime, Anywhere with the USB Shredder

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
We’ve certainly brought you quite a few USB-powered gadgets that are a little on the wacky side, but here’s one that just about everyone can use, especially business travelers. It’s the USB Shredder by Kinlan Industrial, a handheld shredder powered by either 4 AA batteries, AC adapter, or of course, USB. Just turn it on and it can shred sensitive documents on the go, including standard-size ones, as it is 10” long (and weighs only 12 ounces). Just make sure you have something to catch all that shredded paper in. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find pricing information on this handy item, so stay tuned…

Energize your Handheld With Sun Power

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, USB, Cameras, Smartphones, Handhelds, Misc. Tech,

Golden Bridge Eletech has recently unveiled two solar energy products that can power up handhelds such as digital cameras, cell phones, or MP3 Players. Unveiled at Computex 2007, the Regulus and Zubene banks have two parts, a control and solar module. Run by a lithium-polymer battery, it outputs through built-in USB with three LEDs to show the charging status. The solar module is waterproof and features a “triple-junction amorphous” silicon solar cell to absorb differing light wavelengths efficiently. It is also flexible, so that you can carry it backpack-style. The two models only will both become available in September for $129.99 at funGaia.

The USB Think Light Helps Improve Your Typing Speed

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, PC / Laptop,

We wonder what Thomas Alva Edison would have made of this incarnation of the light bulb, courtesy of the always-entertaining Brando website. It’s the USB Think Light, and basically, the faster you type, the brighter the lamp shines. If you stop typing, the lamp goes off. That’s it! We suggest pairing it with Brando’s equally wacky USB Mini Fridge to add a little fun and frivolity to your
workday. By the way, if you’re seriously looking to test your typing speed and accuracy, we highly suggest the video game
“The Typing of the Dead”, part of the “House of the Dead” video game franchise, in which you kill zombies by correctly typing words that flash onscreen. Yes, we’re serious. The USB Think Light is available for $15.

Tom Bihn Smart Alec Laptop Backpack Review

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Wearables, Features, PC / Laptop, Product Reviews,
Quality and Convenience. These are the words that immediately come to mind about Tom Bihn’s Smart Alec laptop backpack and accessories. Available in 4 color combinations, this bag is as stylish as it is functional. But let’s start with Quality. The large, roomy (18.5” x 11.75” x 7.75”), Smart Alec is made of 1050 denier Ballistic and 1000 denier Cordura nylons, and is lined with 500 denier Dupont Cordura nylon. Translation? This bag is strong, and seemingly indestructible, exemplified by their lifetime guarantee. Plus, both the back of the backpack and the straps are heavily padded. My first time out with Alec, I was carrying at least 10 pounds of laptop and other stuff—and yet Alec was surprising comfortable on my back. If you plan on using the Smart Alec as a laptop bag, I highly recommend the Brain Cell, a soft, lightweight but tough-as-nails shell for your computer, with 8mm of durable foam padding. The Brain Cell (which, with its two mesh pockets and shoulder strap attachments can itself be used as a laptop bag) is of the highest quality and durability. The Brain Cell even attaches to the interior of the Smart Alec with “Annex Clips”, further securing your precious PC. I actually dropped Alec twice—with my laptop inside—and wasn’t even remotely concerned about damage to my Gateway. That’s how confident I was in the Brain Cell (my laptop is just fine, by the way).
