Have you ever told a lie, just to end up getting caught later on?  Most of us have, but if you find yourself in the position over and over you might be happy to know that the True Lies service can help you avoid slipping up.  Angus Chan created the service, not to promote the art of lying, but to “lubricate relationships” and help you avoid the any embarrassment of being caught. The service reminds you of lies you told by using methods like email and SMS after you input the lies you told along with some other bits of information. Scandalous.

Description

A couple of days ago, Andru posted directions for making a David Hasselhoff paper plane.  Well, I got curious and poked around in Photoshop a bit, and here’s a “how to” for building your own paper plane blueprint with whatever you want on the wings. For the sake of demonstration, I used a picture of Jenna Jameson (don’t worry, it’s not a nudie picture) pulled from Google – who wouldn’t want a plane with Jenna posing on the wings?

  1. First, I took the original into Photoshop.  Then, using the polygon lasso and trial and error, found the degree to which both sides of Hasslehoff’s head were rotated to the left and right, respectively.  It’s 17°, by the way.  It took a lot of guesswork.
  2. Then, I took my picture of Jenna and divided it in half, cut half of it (ctrl+x or apple+x) and pasted it into my frame containing hasslehoff.  I then rotated it 180° and positioned it, and then rotated it 17° and lined it up perfectly.  The same was repeated for the other half, except rotating it -17° (the opposite direction).
  3. After lining up both halves of the body with the airplane fold lines, I took the polygon lasso again, went to the bottom layer and lassoed the exposed hasslehoff-head, and deleted it.  The result?  An airplane blueprint with Jenna Jameson, not David Hasslehoff, on the wings.

You can of course use this with whatever image you’d like.  Experiment!  Send them in!  Make one with the GearLive logo!  Show your friends! That’s right, I did all the work so you don’t have to.

Robotic Breast ExamMichigan State University researchers are working on a remote breast exam machine, allowing women to have exams without having to physically be at the doctors office. This is great for those in remote locations. The doctor would use a glove on their end, which would control the robot in the remote location. The apparatus would send information visually back to the doctor so that they could diagnose, and would also allow for audible communication between both parties.

360 Elelctrical

Finally somebody did it.  Now you can fit any two plugs into one outlet, not matter the size. 360 Electrical brings us an awesome power oulet. Never thought I would say that.  Looks as if they will come out with some power strips in the near future. I’ll be there.

Heartbeat Lamp

This crazy looking lamp, designed by Matty Salin, has a rather interesting function.  By placing your hands on the lamp base, it will detect your heartbeat within 10 seconds and begin to pulse along with your heart.  The idea is to amplify a usually inconspicuous biological function, and give the user a biofeedback handle with which to control it.  The light is hypnotic, and after a while you can actually watch your pulse slow down by concentrating and relaxing. Leet.

No word on price/availability, but you can check out a movie of it in action here - QuickTime required.

simplehuman Trash CanSteve Rubel, PR extraordinaire, made mention of the simplehuman Trash Can on during his talk at Gnomedex. Interestingly enough, he said that it is a $200 trash can, which sparked some applause from the audience. Going even further, he said that the lid opens and closes “like a Lexus”. I know that is has a wide opening, and it is brushed stainless steel, matching all the Mac gear you have in your office. There is even a noise dampener on the lid to make sure no one hears you trashing anything, and the liner lifts out for easy cleaning.

Discovery LED Water Bowl

Posted by Sparky Categories: Misc. Tech,

Discovery LED Water BowlThe discovery store just dropped what is quite possibly the most ridiculous gadget yet - the LED pet water bowl - on the unsuspecting masses. I had no idea such a thing could exist - nor do I really know why such a thing needs to exist. It’s a pet water bowl that has a ring of green LED’s (what - not blue?) surrounding the top that light up when the bowl is less than 1/4 full. I mean really - can’t people tell if the bowl has water in it by looking at it? Do they really need to spend extra money to add lights? Not to mention that Rover would be pretty freaked out by the concept of drinking from a bowl that lit up and blinked at him. Then again, maybe that is reason enough to give it a buy.

DescriptionCNN reports on a Welsh designer that’s coming up with another useful advancement in technology in sportswear. The “Smart Goggles” designer Katie William’s has come up with a small heads up display in the goggle lens to keep track of laps and time the swimmer. I’m hoping this gets adapted quickly into sunglasses for running, biking, and other sports. Then we can get all, you know, Predator on you.
