Notice to everyone reading this page: Ask your butler to shine your Lamborghini, and take the Porsche to the nearest Hummerdealer because they are giving these babies away with the new H3. You can also buy one for the other Hummers in your garage, if you want one for the H2 for example. But if you are this rich, isn’t the security squad that rolls with you enough? Surely you could hire your own sleuth.

Scientists Implode Tuna Can Using 19 Million Amps of Electricity
Posted by Alex Grahmann Categories: Misc. Tech,
Last week, scientist in Nevada successfully tested the Atlas pulse-powered generator, designed to certify the power of nuclear weapons, by imploding a small aluminum cylinder using what amounts to about four times all the electrical power on Earth. According to the press release, the Atlas will be used not only to crush tin cans, but to “characterize the behavior of materials at the extreme conditions in an exploding nuclear weapon.” The ability to reproduce these types of experiments so efficiently will be a move toward advancing the science of nuclear weapons without resorting to underground nuclear explosions. We should all keep our fingers crossed for a can-crushing home version.

When you think of Home Depot I’m assuming you think of strong masculine things - plywood, tools, appliances. We highly encourage you to think further: Home depot now offers theFurgles, a unique CD and DVD storage solution. An excerpt from the Home Depot website:
Colorful, kooky, comfort-seeking creatures called Furgles! Allergic to fruits, vegetables and all forms of exercise, Furgles feast solely on CDs and DVDs. They’re what we like to call disc-i-vores. This whimsical Belly Case line features three goofy and gullible monsters that store 24 discs inside their bellies.
I don’t know if I could come up with a better or worse description for these myself. Whereas I can see how they manage with the colorul, kooky, CD/DVD feasting qualities of the Furgles I am at a bit of a loss at the Furgles abhorrence of all things good for the kids this product seems to be aimed at. If the Furgles are your thing then head on over to Home Depot and type “Furgles” into the search box on the top right. $9.99 of your hard earned dollars later you can have your own fuzzy friend on it’s way to happily eat 24 of your favoriteCD’s for safe keeping.

Coke employed beverage scientists in cooperation with Nestle may be working on a disturbing miracle of sorts with Enviga, a “diet” soda that burns calories. The Enviga product they claim would increase the users metabolism and burn calories upon drinking. Although this is a great concept in theory we have seen time and time again how weight loss drugs either fail to work, or present a wild array of side effects - I can’t see it catching on. Way to go Coke - find a way to make caffeine more “peppy”, and make us even more afraid to drink your products!

This simulation offers a real-time canoe experience integrating real, interactive water via a small “pool.” By interactive, I mean the pool actually responds to pressure, force, and waves created in the virtual world you are looking at. This is all in a complex database that allows this these realistic features to respond via the end-user. This totally blows away the “virtual parachuting” where you just lie on a mat with a bunch of fans.

Italian designers Giulio Iacchetti and Matteo Ragni have created the next big thing in Sporks. Their new bio-friendly spork designs are composed entirely of Mater-Bi, a biodegradable starch based plastic which is sturdy like plastic, but environmentally friendly to make and recycle/dispose of. Their daring design removes the stem of the utensil and gives it a truly functional appearance. Great for extreme camping, or quick use with prepackaged foods. I can see this new take on the spork as being one that catches on.

New Scientist points out that modern chips are so complex that some chaos creeps into their workings. The study ran a set of test instructions on a Pentium 4 chip many times and noticed that each time the test was run it took a different amount of time to run the test. This deterministic chaos could help them discover the causes behind some kinds of computer glitches. It’s interesting to think that this kind of organic chaos in computer systems could one day produce interesting side effects in human created artificial intelligence.

Phil Zimmermann, creator of the the popular Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) email encryption program is hard at work to bring secure communications to the masses via VOIP. He is currently working on an improvement of his PGPfone voice encryption software that was used with modems to create secure VOIP applications. It is conceivable that the company he is currently trying to fund would be able to develop plugins for popular networks like Skype and Gizmo. Because PGP uses a PKI infrastructure it becomes easy to trade public keys with the people you wish to communicate with while keeping your private keys secure - thus making eavesdropping on your conversation virtually impossible.

Amidst all the amazing bits of technology we come across on a daily basis, oftentimes it is the simpler ones that catch our attention. Take the Dooraway for example. While I am not sure what took this so long to come to fruition, it is certainly something that millions would love to have as a part of their kitchen. The Dooraway is a retractable oven door, which both leaves extra space in the kitchen, and hides the hot door away from the kids. Nice job, Oven Elite.
