Did you know that if you wanted to,  you could call up Amazon or eBay customer service rather than waiting for an email reply? Or, how about the fact that a lot of the specs listed on electronics today can be totally useless, and are just there for “show?” PC World has a greta article up which lists twenty things that consumer electronics manufacturers don’t want you to know. While we knew about just about all of them, it is a great read for some of the more casual buyers out there. Seriously, if you know what to (and what not to) look for, you can save yourself some cash.

28 Corner EraserThe Kadokeshi Plastic Eraser features 28 corners, aiming to outlast all other eraser competition on the market. How so? The theory here is that people use 8 pointed erasers because the points provide for more precise erasing of an area. Once the eight corners have rounded out, you no longer have that sniper-like control. Therefore, tack on twenty more corners, and it should last that much longer. When one of the cubes rounds itself out, cut it off, and you have fresh corners at your disposal.

I.C. Cans

Have you ever had the urge to drink a nice cold beer or soda immediately, only to find that your roommate didn’t take the time to throw the six-pack in the fridge?  Soon enough, this problem may be a thing of the past.  Through a partnership of Tempra Technology and Crown Holdings, the world’s first self chilling can, the I.C. Can, is here!

Proprietary engineering creates a temperature drop proven to reduce the I.C. Can’s™ contents by a minimum of 30° Fahrenheit (16.7° C) in just three minutes. When activated, the all natural desiccant contained within a vacuum draws the heat from the beverage through the evaporator into an insulated heat-sink container. It is this patented vacuum-power which lowers the temperature so dramatically and quickly, leaving the beverage inside cool and refreshing.

The can is non-toxic and 100% safe, using no compressed gases, and is also environmentaly friendly.  The development of a system to mass produce I.C. Cans is in its final stage, so you can expect to see this new technology on store shelves soon.

Keyboard soundsIs it possible to transcribe what others are typing simply by the listening to the noise their keystrokes make?  According to Doug Tygar of the University of California, Berkeley, the answer is yes.  Tygar and his colleagues recorded 10 minutes worth of typing and were able to figure out what was being typed just by the sound.  Each keystroke has a different sound, which enabled researchers to create a computer program that decodes the sound. “Using statistical learning theory, the computer can categorize the sound of each key as it’s struck and develop a good first guess with an accuracy of 60 percent for characters, and 20 percent for words,” explains team member Li Zhuang also of U.C. Berkeley. “We then use spelling and grammar check to refine the result, which increased the accuracy to 70 percent and the word accuracy to 50 percent.”

Pirolette Turn Your HeadWe love products that are cool and unique, and the Pirolette from Turn Your Head is exactly that. After sending in an image of your profile, the sculptor takes a block of wood and goes to work. The end result is a sculpture that matches your profile within a 2mm margin of error. Definitely a unique way to capture a moment in time, such as the profile of a toddler. For a limited time they are selling for about $100 each. Not bad for a hand-made work of art.
