WoofersYou can think of this either as a throwback to the old RCA mascot or as a work of art. Two porcelain dogs contain a co-axial speaker system. Designed by Buro Vormkrijgers, the Woofers (pun intended,) are each 20 x 11.5 x 17-inches and made of polyester. Available in black or white, they will deliver 60 to 180 watt RMS with 4 ohm impedance and can be yours for $900.00 for the pair, if you really want a pair of decapitated canines hanging around the house.

Refrigerated Docking Station

When we first saw this gadget, we though it was meant to tell your shoe size electronically. Embraco, in cooperation with Intel, has created the Refrigerated Docking Station for gaming laptops that, with its compressor, churns out cool air as opposed to just blowing around what is already there. It can reduce the temperature as much as 40%. There is also a temperature sensor to keep track of its progress. Available for the Holiday rush, this should carry a MSRP of about $150.00.

Banana Guard

Is it me, or is looking at this item making you think of endless R-rated jokes? Anyway, it’s not what you think it is (whatever that may be). It’s the Banana Guard, a storage case that protects the vulnerable, potassium-rich fruit from bruises and smushing. The Banana Guard was “designed to fit the vast majority of bananas,” is easy to open and close and even makes a snapping sound when shut. Great for kids, it comes in 5 pretty colors (with a glow-in-the-dark one coming soon!) and you can even have a company name or logo printed on it (on larger orders). C’mon people, how can you not love an item with the

double-entendre

slogan “Protect your Banana”? Available for $7 USD.

Penguin Flash DriveWho doesn’t love penguins? The success of Oscar winners “March of the Penguins” and “Happy Feet” proves the world adores that quirky, comical flightless bird. Gadget-wise, we’ve featured the shower radio and iPenguin, which yours truly—who has collected penguins for too many years to mention— happily owns. Now comes the 1GB Penguin Flash Drive, which includes the very handy ReadyBoost technology for Vista users. The penguin’s head actually protects the USB connector…just flip it up and you’re good to go. Impossibly cute and functional, we think Linux users (and fellow penguin-philes) will love it. The 1GB Penguin Flash Drive is available in Black/White or Black/Gray for approx. $34 USD.

Thrustmaster has released its alternative to the Wii Classic controller, the T-Wireless NW. The gamepad interacts through a 2.4GHz dongle attached to the Wii’s controller port. It features a range of about 30 ft. and the Wii’s buttons with slow and turbo added on for an extra treat. The controller can also support vibration feedback. Along with the device, Thrustmaster is offering optional accessories such as a rubber-gripped steering wheel bracket, a set of skins, and a battery recharger organizer. At a decent price of $19.99, look for the NW to hit retail stores this October.

Belkin iPod Cases

What’s not to like about ?  Not only do they make quality accessories for seemingly all our assorted gadgets, now they‘ve introed cases for which 10% of sales will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Own an iPod Shuffle? Check out their new Sport Armband, which you can also wear on your wrist. It’s also water-resistant and has nighttime reflectors. Very cool.  If you have an iPod nano, there’s a Sport Armband for that too, and yes, it’s water-resistant. Also for the nano is the Remix Acrylic, a clear case made of, yes, acrylic. But our favorite is The Statements, a leather case with a ribbon pattern, a wristband, and a mirror/picture frame! Each comes in Pink (natch) or Bone, and will be available from the Belkin website and exclusively at Target stores on September 15. Prices range from $20-$25 USB.
