Cara DelevingneCara Delevingne has landed a "massive role" as a mermaid in Peter Pan.

The superstar model has been open about her ambitions as an actress and she will get her first big break when she takes on the role in the upcoming blockbuster adaptation of the childhood classic.

"It's a massive role for Cara to land considering she is a relatively unknown actress. However, she is perfect to play a mermaid as she has a body to die for and is very glamorous on screen. Cara is no stranger to being in next to nothing thanks to modeling so it's unlikely she'll feel self-conscious while shooting. It will be quite a demanding role as there will be a lot of underwater work and stunts. Filming underwater could scare a lot of actresses but Cara is definitely up for the challenge," an insider said, speaking to The Sun.

Director Joe Wright will be in charge of the new movie, and it is said he is "delighted" to have Cara committed to the film. "Joe is delighted to have signed up Cara. He considers her to have real star potential and a big career beyond the catwalk," the source added.

Sofia CoppolaSofia Coppola will direct a live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

The filmmaker has reportedly set her sights on Hans Christian Andersen's tragic fairy tale as her next project after 2013's The Bling Ring, and is in negotiations to bring the classic children's story to life on the big screen, Deadline.com is reporting.

Fans shouldn't expect a repeat of Disney's bubblegum 1989 cartoon version about aquatic princess Ariel and talking crab Sebastian, however. Coppola is thought to be planning a version in keeping with the original 1837 story, which sees the broken-hearted Little Mermaid commit suicide after the Prince marries another woman.

The new Universal Pictures/Working Title production is said to be based on a script by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands), which was originally drafted by Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks) and Abi Morgan (Shame).

Drew BarrymoreDrew Barrymore doesn't think she's a very good actress.

The 39-year-old star - who has starred in countless films since the age of six - doesn't rate her dramatic ability because she prefers to become the character, rather than imitate them. "I don't think I'm a good actress. I feel like it's fake and yucky and it doesn't ring true. But if you research and you study and make it personal, you just become that person, and it's your truth and everything else around you falls away. Then you're telling the truth, it's not lying, it's not fake," she explained.

The blonde beauty credits her godfather Steven Spielberg for giving her the best advice, which has stuck with her for 33 years: "Steven told me, 'Don't act your characters. Be your characters.' At [the age of] six, I guess I was comfortable and more humorous than I would have remembered now. But once I got older and kept continuing acting, I don't know if I would have succeeded without that advice, because that's the thing that saved me. I'm not an actor, I'm a pretender."

Benedict CumberbatchBenedict Cumberbatch wants to play a dumb character.

The Sherlock actor, who has just completed The Imitation Game, a biopic of British cryptographer, Alan Turing, insists he's ready for a less intellectual role. "I always seem to be cast as slightly wan, ethereal, troubled intellectuals or physically ambivalent bad lovers... I am so ready to play a really dumb character," the 37-year-old star told T magazine.

Benedict, who has also won awards for his role as Victor Frankenstein and his monster in the West End production, became a huge star after taking on the part of the titular detective in BBC1's Sherlock but admits he's not the nicest character to play: "I always make it clear that people who become obsessed with him or the idea of him - he'd destroy you... He is an absolute b*****d."
