Shia LaBeouf May Face Legal Action for Plagiarism

Shia LaBeouf may face legal action for plagiarism over a short film he made.
The Transformers actor could be taken to court after being accused of the "blatant" borrowing of another artist's story for his project Howard Cantour.com without giving proper credit. Shia's project, which debuted online on Monday follows the story of a troubled internet film critic, and is extremely similar to a 2007 graphic novella by artist Daniel Clowes called Justin M. Damiano.
According to the New York Daily News newspaper, Clowes declined to comment, but his publisher Fantagraphics' Eric Reynolds claims the artist "is exploring his legal options." "LeBeouf changed the name of the main character, but he used the comic as a direct script and storyboard. Clowes has a real melodramatic voice that is very idiosyncratic and LaBeouf just used the dialogue word for word. There is no ambiguity. There is no way that anybody wrote this but Dan Clowes. It just defies any kind of logic or good sense. This was so blatant and inexcusable that it was as baffling as it was appalling," Eric told the publication.
Shia has since apologized for copying ideas from Clowes in a heartfelt statement posted online, admitting how "embarrassed" he feels about the situation. Howard Cantour.com has since been taken off the internet.

Shia LaBeouf Rips Off ‘Ghost World’ Artist
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Short Films, Celebrity Controversy, New Releases,

Shia LaBeouf just can't come out with a project these days without stirring up a bit of controversy. Whether it's with Alec Baldwin on Broadway or Brad Pitt on the set of Fury, it seems as though he's constantly angering someone when it comes to his craft. Today, that someone is Ghost World artist Daniel Clowes.
Although his short film HowardCantour.com - which stars Jim Gaffigan - already premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival, it was its online unveiling yesterday that allowed people to take notice and quickly thereafter become outraged over its blatant plagiarism of Clowes' 2007 comic Justin M. Damiano.

Sam Mendes Praises Queen Elizabeth’s ‘Amazing’ Stunt
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Action, Comedy, Celebrity Gossip,
Sam Mendes thought that Queen Elizabeth was "amazing" when she starred alongside Daniel Craig at the Olympics opening ceremony.
The 86-year-old monarch made a surprise appearance in a sketch for the London spectacular, which saw her greet the actor in his guise as James Bond before supposedly parachuting from a helicopter. The director - who is at the helm for the latest installment of the Bond franchise, Skyfall - "loved" the idea, but said he was too scared to help Danny Boyle - the man who masterminded the ceremony - with the mammoth task.
"I loved it. Of course I knew that that was being shot. Danny [Boyle] was down on the set a couple of times and I was aware of it all going on. I said, 'I'm staying out of it!' I've got enough to worry about without four billion people watching whatever it is!' But I thought it was amazing. And also a good promo for the movie! It was an act of brinksmanship that went spectacularly right. When I heard about it through Danny and Daniel, I thought, 'Okay, that's a hell of a knife-edge to walk,' with the real queen - who I think Danny directed with great elan."

Preview of New York, I Love You
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Romance, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,

Last year, I had the pleasure of watching Paris, je t’aime (“Paris, I Love You”), a wonderful collaboration of work from 21 international directors. The movie was comprised of 18 separate short stories; each tale using a different district of Paris as its backdrop. While the city was not always front and center, it’s character was always felt.
Now one of Paris’ producers will be giving NYC its share of the spotlight. (As if Sex and the City didn’t already do that.) Next spring, a large ensemble of actors - including Kevin Bacon, Ethan Hawke, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom and Natalie Portman (also in Paris) - will be sprinkled over New York, I Love You‘s 12 short stories. The segments will be told from the city’s 5 different boroughs.
Catch a preview of the new movie after the jump.
