Hugh Grant Too Old for Rom-Coms?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Romance, Comedy, Celeb News, Filmmaking,
Hugh Grant thinks he is "too old" to star in romantic comedies any more.
The 51-year-old actor - who is famed for roles in films including Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill - is unsure if he can take on any more parts in the genre because he is no longer young enough.
"Well, I'm too old for romantic comedies, let's face it. I never really chose romantic comedies. They chose me," he said.
The British star claims he has never been keen on his profession, and would now rather take on smaller parts: "I've never been the world's keenest actor. I don't miss it at all. I do occasional things that are odd."
However, directing and writing is something Hugh might consider. "I would love to direct. And after all, I've worked with lots of very good directors now, really good directors, and that really does interest me. I would love to write. But I've been saying it for years and I've never got around to it."

Brad Pitt to Retire at 50?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking, Rumors,
Brad Pitt plans to retire at 50.
The Moneyball actor has revealed he does not plan to stay in front of the camera indefinitely and believes he only has "three years" left in Hollywood, but may turn to producing films instead.
"I've really enjoyed the producerial side and getting stories to the plate that may have had a harder time otherwise."
Despite being keen to step behind the camera, Brad has previously said he would not direct because he would never get to see his family: "I have no aspirations for directing. It would drive me crazy and my family crazy, I'd never see them. It would take me three years to do it. I like what I do now. I love cinema and I'm still watching films I was watching 20 years ago. Making films that stand, that's the goal."

It was difficult. I’ve never been involved in a situation like that where one component is not in the box at all. It was f*****g soul crushing... I mean, a lot of people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, you’re just trying to blame the movie on him. I had no f*****g help from this dude whatsoever."

Clint Eastwood Says 3-D is Just a Phase
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking, Technology,
He may be a fan of Beyonce, but Clint Eastwood is not one for 3-D movies.
The 80-year-old actor and director believes 3-D does have a place in the movie world, but he has never found reason to use it in one of his films.
"I've lived through phases of 3-D at various times and it has come into popularity and left again. There's always going to be different stories and I think 3-D would be an interesting way to make a film. I haven't found a project that would lend itself to that. It could be distracting in certain types of subject matter."
However, Clint does believe it is important to embrace new types of films, as he has done by working on different genres for the last decade. "Most people making films are trying to do new things. I could have been satisfied to stick with the genres I became known for. In the last decade I've been doing different films."
Christopher Nolan Hesitant About 3-D For Batman
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Classics, Sequels, Thrillers, Distribution, Filmmaking, Rumors, Technology,
Inception director Christopher Nolan is “wary” of 3-D.
The director admits he still doesn’t think the technology has been advanced enough to properly suit cinematic releases, but is considering giving in to fan demand for the style to be used in the next Batman movie.
“Until we get rid of the glasses, or until we really massively improve the process, I’m a little wary of it. But we’ll be looking at it, and if that’s what audiences are demanding from blockbusters - and we’re making blockbusters - then it’s something we’ll address.”
Although considering using it himself, Christopher isn’t a fan of 3-D movies and believes a good movie should be so “well-shot and well-projected” that they don’t need to use the new filming technique.
“I’m taking a bit of a wait-and-see attitude towards 3-D. It’s come and gone many times over the years. I don’t particularly enjoy watching films in 3-D films because I think that a well-shot and well-projected film have a very three-dimensional quality to it. So I’m somewhat sceptical of the technology.”
Filming of the currently unnamed movie, which will star Christian Bale in the title role and be Christopher’s last for the franchise, is due to start in March 2011.
David Yates Rumored to Direct The Hobbit
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: MGM, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Drama, Science Fiction, Casting, Filmmaking, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
David Yates is being lined up as the new director for The Hobbit.
The Harry Potter filmmaker is reportedly the top replacement choice for studio MGM, as they search for a suitable candidate to oversee the highly-anticipated two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy tales - a prequel to The Lord of the Rings movies.
Previous director Guillermo del Toro pulled out of The Hobbit last month after continued delays with production, believed to be caused by studio MGM’s financial difficulties. Since then, David has been cited as the best candidate to replace him.
The English director has worked on the final three movies in the wizard franchise ,which he will continue working on until next year. This is expected to give MGM enough time to raise funds ahead of his involvement.
Meanwhile, Sir Ian McKellen - who is due to reprise his role as Gandalf in the fantasy prequel - took to his Twitter account recently to reassure fans the film won’t be affected by the change of director: “Hobbit sets are ready, script ready and movie is casting this month. Fans are not to worry. The films will get made. I suspect we’ll start shooting at end of this year. (sic)”

Quote of the Day: Leonard Nimoy on Directing William Shatner
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Science Fiction, Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking,

“I had been wanting to direct for some time. I had been told many times, ‘You should be a director,’ and I always took it as an insult; there must be something wrong with my acting. When Bill Shatner heard I was going to direct a Star Trek movie he went into deep shock. He was really worried. Look, everybody knows that we have become very, very good friends. But we’ve always been like two competitive siblings. But [as for me directing him] it worked out pretty well.”
