No Catwoman Role for Megan Fox
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
Yes, yes - we all know that Megan Fox is gorgeous and has an amazing body. But must she really be associated with every single female action role out there?
So far the Transformers star has already denied becoming the next Lara Croft (‘cause she’s like so not Angelina Jolie). She’s also squashed rumors about a possible James Bond appearance. Now she’s supposedly in talks to take over a feline role.
According to The Sun, Fox will be following in both Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s footprints as the new Catwoman. The character would reportedly be included in the next Batman film. There’s just one problem: that casting announcement is - surprise! - complete bogus.
“It’s rumor. It’s not true,” a studio rep told People. “There is no script. There is no project to be cast in.”
So now that we’ve cleared that up, what else can we get Megan to deny while we’re at it? That she’ll be the next Wonder Woman? She’s landed the role of Barbarella? She’s going to replace Charlize Theron in the Hancock sequel?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Sequels, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
Batman might have have been on this year’s Comic-Con schedule, but it easily became a hot topic.
At Friday’s panel for The Book of Eli, Gary Oldman was asked about the superhero franchise. The actor, who played Police Commissioner Gordon in the first two films, got the crowd buzzing with his response.
“We start shooting next year,” Oldman revealed. “Which means the movie won’t come out for another two years.” Uh, did he just say what we think he said? “But you didn’t hear it from me!” he added.
Sorry, Gary—but we heard you loud and clear.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Sequels, Casting, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors,
Of all the rumors heard about the next Batman sequel, there’s at least one that could pan out.
While promoting the upcoming release of Public Enemies, Johnny Depp addressed talk about another possible Christian Bale collaboration. Although there are no current plans to have Johnny play an updated version of the Riddler (Jim Carrey brought the character to life in 1995), the Oscar nominee said he might be willing to give the role a shot.

The Big Batman Riddle
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Action, Adventure, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Scripts, Upcoming Releases,
Early today, Popeater started reporting that (of all people) Eddie Murphy has been cast in the role of The Riddler. The character was played by funnyman Jim Carrey in the 1995 Batman film, and Carrey was soundly abused by critics for his efforts.
Britain’s The Sun broke the Murphy news and the story was quickly picked up elsewhere in the world. The newspaper further reported that Murphy would hit the screen in the role in 2010, and that the movie has a working title of Gotham. Murphy as The Riddler? Well, he is pretty funny. Sure, that could work. Right?
Wrong. MSNBC reports that Murphy will not be play the villain. His rep has stepped forward to deny the story first appearing in The Sun. “No one has talked to me about it ever - never.” One rumor connects Johnny Depp to The Riddler role instead.
Who will play The Riddler? Since those behind the Batman film say they haven’t even worked out the story for the film, it’s a little premature to assume the character will even make the final cut.

The Case of Batman vs. Batman
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Sequels,
Oh, the comedians are going to have a field day with this. In a just-strange-enough-to-work, headline-grabbing lawsuit, Batman will face off against the minds behind The Dark Knight. But will the case ever see the inside of a courtroom?
Batman isn’t just a comic book character who first appeared on the scene in 1939 (then called the Bat-man), it’s also an oil-producing town in Turkey. Batman has been refining the fuel since 1955 and boasts Turkey’s oldest refinery. But now, the issue of name infringement has been raised.
Huseyin Kalkan, mayor of Batman, has legally filed suit against Christopher Nolan (who directed The Dark Knight) and Warner Bros. in hopes of gaining a cut of royalties from the film (sure, aren’t there enough to go around?).

Box Office Breakdown: Burn After Reading Smokes Past Competition

Around this same time last year, Tyler Perry was beating George Clooney in a battle at the box office. Now the Sexiest Man Alive is having his day.
This past weekend, cineplexes were kept busy with a handful of new releases. Although each film had a chance of reaching #1, Burn After Reading - starring Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand - emerged as the eventual winner. But the news wasn’t so bad for the other three contenders. Theatergoers clearly starving for fresh material placed all four wide release entries into the chart’s four top slots.

Box Office Breakdown: Bangkok Dangerous Tops Dismal Weekend

Eek. And I thought a $14 million weekend was bad.
Seven days ago, Tropic Thunder reached the #1 spot despite an unimpressive box office turnout. This week, Bangkok Dangerous accomplished that same achievement—with only $7.7 million dollars.
While number crunchers weren’t expecting stellar numbers (kids are back in school, football’s back gone), the underwhelming response to Nicolas Cage‘s latest film was a bit surprising. Not only did the film industry have its worst weekend of 2008, Bangkok had the lowest take for any first-placed flick in five years. (Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star topped with $6.6 million in 2003.)

Box Office Breakdown: Tropic Thunder Makes It Three for Three

At any other time of the year, a $14 million take would probably get you a decent ranking in the Top Ten. This holiday weekend, that box office total was enough to put Tropic Thunder into first place. Again.
Despite a new Vin Diesel entry, the Ben Stiller comedy led the top of the pack for the third weekend in a row. (If it reaches that mark a fourth time, it will have officially reached Dark Knight territory.) Meanwhile, Babylon A.D. settled for second place with only $11.5 million in ticket sales. I’m guessing the sci fi film’s reviews - in particular, the one from the movie’s own director - might have had something to do with the disappointing turnout.

Cher’s Publicist Enjoys Catwoman Rumors
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Adaptation, Sequels, Casting, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors,
C’mon. Does anyone really believe the rumors are real?
Last month, Britain’s Daily Telegraph reported that Britney Spears was being sought for a role in a Quentin Tarantino film. And while that story has since been shot down, the same newspaper is back at it again.
Over the past week, buzz has been spreading about the next installment in the Batman series. According to the Telegraph, director Christopher Nolan is currently talking to Cher about playing Catwoman. The paper cites a ‘studio exec’ who says Nolan has strong visions for the Vegas singer. “Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years,” said the source.
By the way - did I mention that Johnny Depp is supposedly on board to play The Riddler as well?
