Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Zach Galifianakis: The Hangover scene stealer has been invited to have Dinner for Schmucks. The comedy focuses on the “most pathetic” person to ever be included in a weekly dinner. Galifianakis will sit alongside Steve Carell and Paul Rudd in this Jay Roach-directed film.

James McAvoy: It’ll be the Wanted star’s job to make a story about cancer funny. McAvoy is now attached to a story - previously called I’m with Cancer - that screenwriter Will Reiser wrote after his own fight with the disease. Co-star Seth Rogen will also produce the project while Nicole Holofcener (Friends with Money) will direct.

Catalina Sandino Moreno: The Oscar nominee is the newest name to join Eclipse. Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) has been tapped to play Maria, the character who turns Jasper during the Civil War. Other recent additions to the sequel include Jack Huston as Royce King II and Bryce Dallas Howard who takes over as the new Victoria.

Judy Greer: Every leading lady’s best friend has racked up a part in Love and Other Drugs, an adaptation of a Jamie Reidy novel. Greer will play a trainer instructor for a pharmaceutical company in the Ed Zwick (Defiance) film. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway both co-star.

Connor Cruise: Someone’s 15 minutes of fame has been extended to a few hours. Tom Cruise’s son has been added to the remake of Red Dawn. Connor, who had a small part as a younger Will Smith in Seven Pounds, has been cast as Daryl, the role originated by Darren Dalton in the 1984 version. The film is due out September 2010.

Jon Hamm: The Mad Men lead won’t be traveling far in time for his next job. Hamm has climbed aboard Sucker Punch, a 1950s-set project being helmed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen). In the film, a group of friends attempt to get their friend out of a mental institution by entering an alternate reality. It’s not known what role Jon’s character - “High Roller” - will play in the film. Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish and Carla Gugino will all co-star.
