I also have that Motorola V551 from Cingular.  It’s a pretty nice phone.  Before that, I had a Sony Ericsson T616 with AT&T.  But, I switched to another plan, and since they don’t do AT&T no more, I had to dump my Sony Ericsson and so I went with the Motorola.  Still trying to get used to it.  It’s a big difference going from the T616 to the V551.  Although, I do have to admit that the camera quality on the V551 is 1000 times better than that stupid blurry crap on the T616.

Otherwise, I still prefer the menu interface on the T616, though, the V551 menu is more animated, plus the techno skin ROCKS!  But oh well.  I’ll get used to it…

So unlocked phones work on any GSM network.

In other words, if you are on Verizon, you are screwed?

Yep. Well not really. I happen to know a little about this but CMDA phones are activated through ESN numbers. In other words all you have to have is a CMDA capable phone and the ESN number to be activated with. You do not need to unlock it. But since CMDA and GSM are two different networks you can use a phone from one with the other. For example I cant use a RAZR V3, as much as I would like to, with my verizon service. :(

Wow. You answered my question before I even asked it.  👏  I have the T616 and thinking of getting either the V551 or the Samsung E317.
