An unlocked phone is on you can use on any gsm network. It doesnt matter what kind of sim card it is.

He is right…except some phones (well hardly any) might not operate on the frequency that your provider uses. This is hardly a case with all the tri-band phones but I’m sure there are certain cases

yes usually tri band phones work everywhere in the world except if it has 850/1800/1900 band then it works in most places in the world, and quad band phones have 850/900/1800//1900 bands so they are gauranteed to work anywhere in the world.

unlocked means that it comes straight from the manufacturer… so you will be able to use the cellphone with any GSM network…

Locked cellphones are those that you get when you buy a plan….

It’s pretty nice..  well I updated from a POS Motorola C331, so im very happy about this one.  and I bought a USB cable for it, so I can transfer pics from and to the cellphone, and I have a handfull of games in it too…  I never knew you could play Splinter Cell on a cell phone…
