Quote of the Day: Carine Roitfeld on Censorship
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Editorials, Models,

“What I can see is that now, the censoring is bigger than it was 20, 30, or 40 years ago. I think we have less freedom. Today some pictures [from past issues of Vogue Paris] would not even be publishable. It’s not just about the nudity, but when you talk about things politically, the military, kids, it would all be politically incorrect and not publishable today. We have to fight to keep this un-politically correct attitude of French Vogue, but it’s more and more difficult to be able do that. You cannot smoke, you cannot show arms, you cannot show little girls, because everyone now is very anxious not to have problems with the law. Everything we do now is like walking in high heels on the ice, but we keep trying to do it.”
- French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld on current censorship in fashion magazines.

French Vogue Celebrates 90th Anniversary With Lara Stone’s Breasts
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Editorials, Health & Beauty, Models, News,
While French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld made it clear that the magazine's 90th anniversary issue was going to be big, I didn't realize that they meant zooming in on model Lara Stone's large chest for the cover! "Vogue Paris has always played the card of audacity. We couldn't do a lukewarm issue," Roitfeld said. Again, I never expected Vogue to disappoint; however, I don't necessarily agree with bringing the supposedly-classy fashion pages down to Playboy status. Is the October issue of the fashion glossy too much or just the right amount of shocking?

Grace Coddington Autobiography in the Works
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Models, News,
Grace Coddington is to pen her fashion memoirs.
The Welsh-born fashion writer, who came to the attention of many thanks to her starring role in The September Issue alongside Anna Wintour, is to write a book with Men’s Vogue editor-in-chief Jay Fielden.
“We’re just starting, and I think it’s going to be a really fun project. I’m hoping it’s going to be very rich in fashion history.”
The book is expected to document her early life in Wales, as well as her careers at both British and American Vogue. The flame-haired former model is currently the creative director of American Vogue, and joined the magazine on the same day as Anna Wintour in 1988.
Her profile was raised by The September Issue, which explored her relationship with both Wintour and the other stylists and designers involved with the magazine. Grace began working for Vogue after her modeling career was cut short due to a car crash that led her to require plastic surgery.

Quote of the Day: Mario Testino on Kate Moss, Anna Wintour
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Models, News, Rumors,

“Believe it or not, [Kate Moss] is shy. I go to events with her and I am, like, what’s the matter with you?’ and she is, like, shaking, nervous. I’m, like: ‘You’re a freak, because I am not shy at all.’ Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, is, you imagine, the most secure person, but she is shy, too. Often people mistake her shyness for coldness.”
- Fashion photographer Mario Testino talks about the shy personalities of Kate Moss and Anna Wintour.

Givenchy Not Appearing in Couture Shows
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News, Rumors, Sales,
Givenchy is ditching traditional catwalk shows in favor of private appointments with high fashion clients and editors.
The luxury French label is aiming to make fashion even more exclusive by condensing future collections into 10 looks and presenting them in the luxurious settings of an 18th century town house on the Place Vendome in Paris. The label’s couturier Riccardo Tisci told WWD he is tired of traditional fashion shows, saying, “I want to make couture even more special than it is, and not just another catwalk show. People can really experience the couture moment - see it, touch it.”
The presentation will include a lookbook shot by renowned Vogue photographer Willy Vanderperre with appearances by David Walliams’ supermodel wife Lara Stone and Mariacarla Boscono.
Laughing off reports this is a cost cutting measure, the label revealed the presentations will actually cost 35 per cent more than a traditional catwalk show. The fashion house, however, is not ruling out smaller fashion shows in the future as Tisci revealed further collections will be unveiled at the label’s couture salons where mini catwalk shows will be held.
“It’s going to be a very good moment for creativity. For couture, it’s going to go back to being very exclusive,” Tisci added, heralding this as a new start.
