Fashion Police: Elle Fanning Knows How to Wear Rodarte
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

Can we just take a minute to bask in the elegance and awesomesauce that is Elle Fanning's style?
The 15 year-old (I know, it's not fair, right?) showed up in this fabulous Rodarte Spring 2013 look to the Hammer Museum on Monday night, where Rodarte and Todd Cole presented their film collaborations. The sleek sheer over the skirt matched with a very feminine take on a tuxedo top make for one brilliant gown, which Elle effortlessly and goodness knows glamourously wore to the event.
Fanning's look is a breath of fresh air among tacky Halloween costumes and previous questionable fashions.

Black Swan Expected to Influence Spring Fashion
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows,
Prepare yourself for a bombardment of tutus, feathers, and knits -- Rodarte fans are swooning everywhere! It's bad enough that people are clocking in more hours at the gym because of Black Swan, but now clothing designers are banking on the film's popularity in hopes that consumers will flock to their stores, too.
Costume designer Amy Westcott worked with Rodarte duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy in bringing the gothic fairytale looks to life. "We had an affinity for the subject matter," Kate said. She added that it helped her understand the "darker nature and twisted kind of underbelly" of the ballet world.
Lagerfeld's Spring/Summer 2011 collection already reflects a feminine-with-a-dash-of-darkness theme, complete with dark eye makeup, sheer materials, and jeweled fabrics. BCBG Max Azria and Lipsy of London are due to sell tutus come this Spring.
Amidst this dance craze, let's not forget that there's always American Apparel.

Mulleavy Sisters Guest Edit Lula Issue, Style Kirsten Dunst
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, News,
Despite the high pressure demands of designing their Rodarte line, Kate and Laura Mulleavy somehow managed to both design costumes for Black Swan and guest edit next month's issue of Lula!
In the Fall/Winter 2010 issue -- on newsstands now -- the creative duo styled a Kirsten Dunst editorial shot by their friend Autumn de Wilde, designed Charlotte Gainsbourg's cover dress, and cajoled Tavi Gevinson and Sofia Coppola to contribute to the fashion mag.
The magazine also includes behind-the-scenes shots of Natalie Portman in Black Swan designs, which show more of the intricacies the sisters are known for that were lost somewhat in the film. Nan Goldin shoots the main editorial featuring Gainsbourg, which was styled by Leith Clark.
All in all, the few previews of the magazine that are out (seen after the jump) are sure to please any Rodarte/Mulleavy fan (or anyone who adores fashion, anyway!).

Items Du Jour: Olsens Look to London, Zac Looks to Paris, and Rodarte on Daytime TV
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models, News, Rumors,
- At last night’s big Belvedere Pink Grapefruit event in New York, Ashley Olsen revealed that a certain city across the pond will be the inspiration for the pair’s next Olsenboye collection. That’s nice and all, but I’d really appreciate if they’d concentrate on getting the line out of JCPenney.
- While it may not be London who calls for Zac Posen, Paris has caught the American designer’s eye. Posen, who has been unhappy with how New York critics have treated him during fashion week debuts, says that he wants to show in the city of love because “they understand my clothes.”
- With a slew of dark looks lately, Lady Gaga performed at the Rainforest Fund’s 21st Birthday Celebration in an all-white custom Calvin Klein creation. She even wore a light gray wig to match!
- As her younger sister Georgia Jagger steams up the latest Chanel ads, model Elizabeth Jagger is contemplating full-on nude spreads now that she’s getting older. Has she seen Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer lately?
- There’s a new bag in town, and it’s called the Schitbag. If only I made these things up. I’m almost tempted to buy it simply to tout the fact that I have a fashionable schitbag.
Quote of the Day: Mulleavy Sisters on Functioning Together
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News,

“We’re always together. We function as one unit. We started thinking about our [autumn] collection when we were driving through Texas listening to 1950s music. I said: ‘I’m thinking of these border towns and sleepwalking.’ [Laura] said: ‘Me, too.’”
- Rodarte designer Kate Mulleavy on her connection with her sister (and other half of Rodarte) Laura.

Rodarte Sisters Have Eyes for Film
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Women,
Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the brains and heart behind Rodarte, have an eye for more than fashion.
Horror film fans themselves (think Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, and Hellraiser), the sisters have ventured into the media world, signing with William Morris Endeavor Entertainment.
In a statement released by the Beverly Hills-based agency, they plan to “advise the label on opportunities in publishing and film and identify potential strategic partnerships and sponsorships.”
In light of fashion-meets-film’s success with the Vogue-centric The September Issue, I have no doubt that the Rodarte sisters will outperform our expectations in whatever endeavors they pursue in publishing and film—I just can’t wait!
Rodarte’s PR agency since 2005, Black Frame, is expected to continue with the brand’s global marketing.
