This was the first pick that drew some grumblings behind the scenes. Third round? “It seems a bit early, but what do I know,” wrote one of our resident experts in an e-mail. “I know what you are doing, BUT…” well, I can understand. But hey, the guy was an all-star. And a late season injury that ended his season on April 1st killed any momentum his great year would have garnered heading into the summer.

Living in the New York City area, you experience many things that are dirty, smelly, bumpy, and must bring major disturbances to the Force. There aren’t too many things that go smoothly around these parts, my “game” back when I was single can be a testament to that. Yeah, I’ve had my fair share of slaps across the face, looks of pure distaste, and mocking giggles thrown my way. Now what does Michael Redd have to do with my former dating life?
Well, Redd’s stroke is the complete opposite of it… smooth.

Team Eight took the plunge and drafted Amare Stoudemire first. Locking down one of the best big men in the game, they ended up with Rashard Lewis and his new home in the second round. With these two likely providing about 50 combined points a night with a fair share of rebounds and threes, why not pile on some more production by taking a player that would be back in the first round of fantasy drafts if his back problems wouldn’t continue to haunt us.

Does anyone maximize their athleticism more than Gerald Wallace? After only one season at Alabama, Wallace came out early and was drafted by the Kings towards the end of the first round based solely on his jumping jack ability and very raw tools. Seriously, it’s not like Wallace was lighting it up in college either, averaging less than 10 points and six boards a game, as well as shoot 44% from the field and 57% from the line. Yeah, that’s pretty ugly. However, Crash did average over a block and steal a game and he did have that athleticism.
So, why mention all of this? Well, it seems that that raw nature of Wallace’s game is starting to smooth out, pimp-style!

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007 Round 3, Pick 5 - Chauncey Billups

Look at that smile. That’s a 60 million dollar smile! Chauncey Billups will be returning to the Detroit Pistons after signing a four-year 60 million dollar contract this past summer. Good thing for fantasy owners because Chauncey has had his best statistical years under Pistons Coach Flip Saunders. Billups is the calming floor general for the Pistons’ offense and is the yin to the volatile Rasheed Wallace’s yang. Harmony. Chant with me. Ohmmmm…now follow me through the four yoga flows for the downward dog sequence.
Ha! Can you imagine Rasheed Wallace doing yoga?!?! Sorry, I digress. Billups will be fresh from his summer run with Team USA when the season starts, but should continue his positive contribution to fantasy teams the games count.

With Kevin Garnett’s big stats and Allen Iverson’s small stats already on board, I have the option of taking whom I feel is the best player available instead of reaching for a certain position. As Alvin touched on health issues with several players, he didn’t mention this guy as he pounded out 80 games in each of the last two seasons. Oh, and he’s pretty good too.

With this roster comprised only of the Matrix and ‘Melo right now, a point guard is definitely the way to go. Before the Warriors knocked off the Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs, the haters were, well, hatin’ on Baron. Some people employ the strategy of avoiding Baron because of his injury history. But then Amare Stoudemire, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Elton Brand, Yao Ming, Pau Gasol, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Carlos Boozer, and of course Marcus Camby have current or past injury woes, but that did not stop us from calling their names in this mock draft blog. How much success can you achieve by playing safe ball anyways? Now don’t get sweeped up by the hype of his playoff play, but the days of ignoring this guy are over.
