Comic Book Jobs: DC Comics Burbank

Hawkman Mini FigureIt seems like hardly a day goes by that DC Comics doesn’t post a new job listing for one of their many offices.

This time, the office is in Burbank, and the job is Digital Production Clerk for their Digital Publishing department. In other words, a starter job in the department of the future.

You’ll be mostly scanning comic book pages from either line art, film, or printed images on flatbed and copydot scanners. Good hand-eye coordination seems like a must-have.

But you’ll also need mad computer skills to make color corrections and editing fixes, and keep your equipment in good working order so the IT guys don’t come upstairs and make fun of you and those who hired you.

You’ll need a college degree or its equivalent, along with prior “computer, prepress, print production, or digital publishing production experience,” and all manner of Macintosh skills to help you multi-task, work under pressure and put in the necessary overtime.

Good luck, job seekers!

Batman 9Out in Burbank, DC Comics’ new west coast division is looking for a Creative Director for the DCE Entertainment department. (Just an observation: doesn't the E in DCE stand for Entertainment?]

What does that kind of job entail? Only the coolest stuff on the planet, fanboy! Check this out:

1-Review scripts for designated live-action features and television programs.

2-Brainstorm on overall DCE creative plans and strategies across all platforms including theatrical, television, animation, video games and publishing.

3-Review treatments and scripts submitted in project development phase. Makes notes regarding character usage and story lines in order to recommend whether the project should proceed.

4-Review archives for under-utilized assets and/or in order to capitalize on market trends and popularity.

And that’s just the big four at the top of their list. It's like finding out the girl you're dating likes to dress up as Catwoman.

JokerDC Entertainment in Burbank (formerly part of DC Comics in New York) is looking for a new warm body in their finance department. The job is Senior Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis.

As one of the head number-crunchers, you’ll probably be reporting to Nairi Gardiner, who was just named Senior VP of Finance.

Working out of the Finance & Administration department, you’ll be crunching it numberwise for “assigned departments” and managing aspects “of financial planning and monitor operating results against plan.” So you’ll be grading people and their plans and seeing how well - or otherwise - they do.

It’s all budgets, forecasts, financial planning, revenue and expense templating, done with weekly updates so there’s no quarterly panic attack should the wheels fall off the wagon at some point.

Alfred E. NeumanIn the midst of their ongoing restructuring, DC Comics needs another warm body. This time, it's an Executive Assistant in their Burbank offices. The ad is from Time Warner, the division is DC Comics, but the posting is for an Exec Asst in the E.C. Publications office.

I could be wrong, and the ad doesn't state it, but that's MAD Magazine for those not up on their copyright knowledge.

The position provides "administrative support to the President," and that means coordinating meetings, researching and compiling information into reports, handling T&E expense reports, taking care of all incoming calls (and probably the outgoing ones too) and my favorite job responsibility: "other related tasks.

One of the bonus responsibilities is that you'll be interfacing "with talent, filmmakers and creative rights-holders as necessary in support of President and/or division executives."
