You gave Apple permission to track your whereabouts via your iPhone

iPhone location tracking

Did you know that Apple is tracking your every move with your iPhone and iPad? A blog post published today on O'Reilly Radar claims that devices running iOS 4 are gathering location and storing it in an unencrypted manner.

"What makes this issue worse is that the file is unencrypted and unprotected, and it's on any machine you've synched with your iOS device. It can also be easily accessed on the device itself if it falls into the wrong hands. Anybody with access to this file knows where you've been over the last year, since iOS 4 was released," wrote Pete Warden, founder of the Data Science Toolkit, and Alasdair Allan, a senior research fellow at the University of Exeter.

The data is being stored to a file known as "consolidated.db," which includes latitude-longitude coordinates and a timestamp.

Of course, this shouldn't surprise anyone who read the entire 45-page EULA, as it clearly states the following clause when going into detail on the type of “non-personal information” that Apple can “collect, use, transfer, and disclose … for any purpose.”

We may collect information such as occupation, language, zip code, area code, unique device identifier, location, and the time zone where an Apple product is used so that we can better understand customer behavior and improve our products, services, and advertising.
What that means is that Apple made it clear (or, as clear as you can make it when buried in the middle of a lengthy privacy policy) that it would be doing this, and we've all agreed to it.

Listen to Lady Gaga’s Sinful New Single

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Leaks, Upcoming Releases, Videos, Pop,

Lady Gaga’s “Judas” has unexpectedly leaked onto the Web, and it’s already too hot for some listeners to handle. The lyrics, ostensibly written from the point of view of the Bible’s Mary Magdelene, have some believers enraged.

The Catholic League has already taken offense to the song, but that was even before the single leaked onto the Internet. The content of the song itself -- not to mention the title -- won Gaga a heated response. In a statement, League president Bill Donohue said “this is a stunt,” and “Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general.”

Take a listen to the video and decide for yourself -- sinfully good, or just plain sinful?

American Idol: Top 8 Results

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,

Mover than 53 million votes were recorded after American Idol’s Tuesday performance round, but one of the Top 8 failed to score a big enough share to survive the night.

Before any results were revealed, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina again paired up to deliver a duet of “American Honey,” originally by Lady Antebellum. They sound wonderful together, and the number was perfect. They’ll be performing a lot of duets together over the summer, when they both go out on the Idol tour.

The week’s Ford music video followed, a rather fun combination of cars and zombies. Watch all this year’s music video at Albumista.

American Idol 10

Tuesday’s American Idol opened with a re-cap of Pia Toscano’s surprising elimination, which caused a Twitter flurry and upset the three judges last week. But this week, she’s gone -- for better or worse. And the Top 8 performers carried on without her, because Idol’s show must go on.

The show took time to pay tribute to J-Lo, who has just been named as People’s Most Beautiful Woman. Perhaps it’s appropriate that she be celebrated on the show -- it’s Movie Week on Idol. And that doesn’t meant show tunes… it means soundtracks.

Stephen Colbert has challenged his nation, and once again Comedy Central viewers have answered… on Twitter.

On his Colbert Report, the host called attention to an argument made by Senate Minority Whip John Kyl (R-Ariz) in which Kyl claimed that 90% of Planned Parenthood’s business is in abortions. Actually, the number is much closer to 3%. By way of correcting the mistake, Kyl’s office released a statement explaining that the Senator’s comment was “not intended to be a factual statement.”

American Idol Denies Fan’s Front Row Claims

As we reported, Ashley Kauffman came forward recently to talk about being moved from her front-row American Idol seat because she was deemed “too heavy.” She talks about her experience to ABC in the video above. Now, the show has responded -- and they’re denying her claims.

Manfred Westphal, spokesman for Fremantle Media (the company that produces Idol), says that Kauffman’s statements are “simply untrue.”
