Droid Incredible picking up mobile hotspot and 720p recording via OTA update?

Droid Incredible hotspot

Looks like the HTC is set to pick up a couple of oft-requested features by way of an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Droid Life is reporting that we can expect to see mobile hotspot functionality, 720p video recording, and even the addition of the red Droid eye bootup sequence (not that that one is a big deal.) No firm word on when the update will start being pushed to users, but we have an inquiry out to Verizon on that. Meantime, if you want a peek at the new HTC Incredible boot sequence, check the video after the break.

Verizon iPhone 4

According to Bloomberg, it seems that Wireless may finally start offering the iPhone to customers, starting in January 2011. Many have wondered when AT&T’s exclusive grip on the iPhone would be coming to an end, and “two people familiar with the plans” are pointing to January. As expected, Verizon and Apple spokespersons have declined to comment, but we wouldn’t be shocked if we saw the drop on Verizon in the new year.

Apple sells over 1.7 million iPhone 4 units in 3 days

iPhone 4 1.7 million

We knew that over 600,000 iPhone 4 pre-orders came through before the device even hit the streets, but with the epically massive lines seen during the iPhone 4 launch, we had to wonder if Apple had topped one million sold. Well, this morning we got news that Apple blew way past one million—the company sold over 1,700,000 iPhone 4s in just the first three days of availability.

“This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”

The 1.7 million number is based on sales in the US, UK, Germany, France, and Japan. iPhone 4 will go on sale in 18 additional counties by the end of July.

Test out FaceTime with Apple support

FaceTime supportUsing for the first time is one thing that many new users were excited about—but what if you don’t have any friends who also have an iPhone 4, currently the only FaceTime-compatible device on the market? Apple is here to help.

Apple support representative are standing by, ready to connect with you on a FaceTime call to give you a tutorial of all the features that FaceTime offers. All you need to do to start is dial 1-888-FACETIME from your iPhone 4 handset. From there, you will be asked a few questions to make sure you are ready to connect over FaceTime, and then you’ll be on a face-to-face call with Apple.

For what it’s worth, we think it’s pretty cool of Apple to offer this basic service. What better way to show the magic of FaceTime than to let the user experience it themselves, first hand, which is something that will never come across the same way in a video tutorial.

How to enable and disable FaceTime on the iPhone 4

iPhone FaceTime Setting

is one of the major new features that set the smartphone apart from others, but we’ve been hearing that quite a few people are unable to place a FaceTime call from their iPhone 4, despite both parties being connected to Wi-Fi, which is the only requirement. In fact, we had the same issue when we tried to fire up our first FaceTime chat while at the Apple Store during iPhone 4 launch. I immediately walked over the to Genius Bar, figuring that my iPhone 4 wasn’t recognizing the fact that it had a front-camera or something, and the Genius was stumped, too. He was also in charge of handing out iPhone 4 units, so we didn’t have his full attention anyway. While he was doing his thing, we looked through the Settings area to see if there might be something there. As it turns out, there was.

For whatever reason, not all iPhone 4s are shipping with FaceTime enabled. The person I was with had just bought his iPhone 4, same as I did, and his had FaceTime enabled by default, while mine was disabled by default—both straight out of the box. If you are experiencing the same, first thing you should do is go into Settings, then Phone. Right beneath your phone number will be the FaceTime toggle. Switch it to “ON” and you are good to go.

White iPhone 4 delay

It’s the eve before the official launch of the , despite some buyers getting theirs early, and we were still left wondering what exactly happened to the white iPhone 4—until now. Apple has finally ponied up with some info, letting us know that the reason for the delay is simply that the white model is “more challenging to manufacture than expected.” If you wanna get one of the white models, you’ll have to wait until the second half of July, which is when Apple expects to have everything sorted out. You can read their official statement below:

Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4

White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

So, you gonna wait?
