Are you walking around with an iPhone that shackled to a mobile carrier that you'd like to free? Well, there's now a super-easy way to unlock any iPhone running iOS 5.1 or earlier. Yes, that includes unlocking the iPhone 4S. Through a series of persistent hacking, a programmer who goes by the moniker of Loktar_Sun has finally found a way of spoofing the iPhone, thus allowing the user to unlock the device. A few things are needed in order to get started: You've got to jailbreak your iPhone (one that isn’t officially blacklisted), the free unlocking app (SAM) from Cydia, and an Internet connection. Hackers claim to have jailbroken the PS3

During the Chaos Communication Conference, a group of hackers claimed that they discovered the Sony Playstation 3 private key, which the device uses to verify code and run its DRM system, preventing users from running games that hasn't been approved by Sony. In a long talk, they described the process of how the system works, and what it took to break it down. Consoles running the latest firmware are currently unable to run homebrew games, but if the claims are true, this would give any user complete control over their system. While it doesn't mean much for the average user right now, it could lead to the ability to run Linux, or any other software on the console. In a nutshell, it seems the code which gives the device random numbers to generate the crypto needed, instead returns a predictable number, as illustrated above. Hit the jump for videos of the talk.

Windows Phone 7 jailbroken with ChevronWP7

With the arrival of ChevronWP7, Windows Phone 7 now has it's own jailbreak software. This week, the first version of the WP7 unlocker was released, a tool which allows users to "unlock" their phones. The developers of ChevronWP7 claim that it was made to be an easy and painless thing to do, requiring just a USB cable and a few clicks. Of course, this may void your warranty, and cause other side effects, but it does allow one to go under the hood, and install apps from other sources than the official app marketplace. It should also be noted that this unlocks you from the clutches of the Windows Phone 7 app marketplace, and is not a carrier unlock tool.

Sure, it’s not as easy as downloading it from the App Store or anything, but still, you’ve gotta give mad props to a dev who can work this kind of magic on a jailbroken iPhone. iPod touch 2.1 jailbroken with the quickness

To say “That was fast” would be an understatement. Just three days after Apple unleashed the new iPod touch 2.1 firmware, alongside a newly updated iPod touch, the new firmware has already been jailbroken by the good folks at the QuickPwn project. Hey, I guess we should no longer be surprised anymore. If you are jonesing to jailbreak your touch, just know that you are gonna have to mess around with the command line, as the GUI version has yet to be completed (it’s coming though - as is an iPhone 2.1 jailbreak.) But, hey, getting comfy with the command line is right in line with the iPod touch being the “funnest iPod ever”, am I right?

With the launch of iPhone 3G, many have been waiting and hoping for a method that would allow tethering of the iPhone to a mobile computer like, say, a MacBook. Well, lucky for your mobile warriors, that time has finally come - it’s just takes a bit of work to get it functioning. Do remember, though, that AT&T isn’t offering any sort of tethering plan with the iPhone, so if you get caught, you may be forced to pay a bunch of money out of pocket. Or your service could be shut off. Still, if that isn’t something that matters to you, then click on through for the instructions, provided by my pal Nate True. He took a bunch of different pieces of software and solutions, and mixed them together into a powerful concoction that allows you to use your iPhone 3G as a modem by way of 3Proxy, Terminal, and WiFi. Now all we need are batteries for the iPhone 3G that don’t die in a matter of seconds.
