Apple has just released a new developer build of , the first since . This one is Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard build 10A394, and is the first Snow Leopard dev update that is available simple by firing up Software Update. Just a word to the wise, after running the update, you’ll need to download and install Xcod 3.2 for Snow Leopard 10A394, and if you do iPhone development on your Snow Leopard system, you’ll need to download and re-install the 3.0 for Snow Leopard. Have fun!

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 now available

Hey look at this, after just a little more than a week, we’ve another build of the beta. has released iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 (build 7A312g), which is now available for download to iPhone developers. Of course, iPhone SDK 3.0 beta 4 (build 9M2735) is also available. In order to get iPhone 3.0 beta 4 working, you need to be running the newly released iTunes 8.2 Pre-release (b10).

Of interest here is that the SDK is just one build newer than the last one, and the fact that we are getting close to weekly beta releases. This is an obvious sign that Apple is in the finalization stages of the iPhone 3.0 OS, which lines right up with the June release of the platform.

Another two weeks has gone by, which means another build of the beta. has released iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4 (build 7A300g), which is now available for download to iPhone developers. Of course, iPhone SDK 3.0 beta 4 (build 9M2734) is also available. As you’ll remember, iPhone 3.0 introduces a bunch of new functionality for consumers, and over 1,000 new API for developers. In order to get iPhone 3.0 beta 4 working, you need to be running the newly released iTunes 8.2 Pre-release.

Some changes in the current build of the iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4:

  • Performance updates, less crash prone.
  • The setttings area for “Store” now works, allowing you to control your iTunes account
  • MMS seems to be working on more carriers out of the box

Hey, looks like has just released iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 to developers as of a few minutes ago, alongside beta 2 of the iPhone SDK 3.0. As you recall, introduces a bunch of new functionality for consumers, and over 1,000 new API for developers. Many who upgraded to firmware 3.0 when it was made available have complained of much sluggishness taking over their iPhone or iPhone 3G, so let’s hope that upgrading to beta 2 cleans up some of that, for those people who didn’t downgrade back to 2.2.1. Developers, you can grab iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 right now.

We are stilling digging deep into the update, and will be bringing you our thoughts in just a bit, but we felt that it might behoove us to let you know that you can now download the iPhone 3.0 keynote presentation directly from iTunes now, in it’s entirety (minus the Q&A session.) Go ahead and get a first-hand look at cut, copy, and paste, MMS, global Spotlight search, and all the demos. If you aren’t a developer, then you can look forward to downloading the update in June, which will probably be alongside this years iPhone release.

iPhone OS 3.0 preview on March 17th

Alright fans, we know that the has been getting all the attention lately in the “awesome touchscreen phone” department, but relax. has just sent out notice to all of us press-types that they are going to be presenting iPhone OS 3.0 for the first time on March 17th. That’s right, in five days you will get an “advance preview” of what Apple has been working on for the next version of the iPhone operating system, as well as a look at the new version of the SDK, which will (or should) give developers better ways to integrate their apps into the OS.

We’re excited.


Apple and Adobe collaborating on Flash for iPhone

iPhone Flash pluginWhat’s the latest on the rumors? It looks like work is being done, but that finding a solution is proving to be tough, as evidenced by Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen:

“It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating,” Narayen told Bloomberg Television at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”

Did you get that? and Adobe are working together to come up with a suitable Flash derivative for the iPhone. So while there’s no set date or anything, we can at least rest assured that it’s coming. iPhone Hulu, anyone?
