Kota the Triceratops

Here’s one that the kids are sure to love - Kota the Triceratops is a rideable dinosaur. Did you catch that? A life-sized baby dinosaur to be exact, Kota is 40-inches long, and has a spring-loaded seat and handle. He also sports a smile on his face, which should mean that children won’t be scared of him. Kota has 11 sensores, so it reacts intelligently to sound as well as touch. He will react by turning his head, tail, horns, or even by roaring. You can also feed him some leaves, which will cause the dino to make a munching sound. The best part? Kota sells for $299 - but Amazon is currently selling him for just $150 - that is 50% off! Better hurry though, no telling how long that deal will last.

Get a Look at Land of the Lost

Land of the Lost, Sleestak

Back in February, we told you about a planned remake of the ‘70s series, .  The comedy, starring Will Ferrell, would give a modern update to the mysterious land filled with dinosaurs and things called Pakuni.

While the recreation will not have any kids (they’ve been replaced by two adult companions), other elements of the original show will remain as true as possible.  In the picture above, you can see director Brad Silberling’s (Lemony Snicket) version of the classic Sleestaks.  The lizard creatures - which won’t be products of CGI - will come with slightly enhanced features.  Instead of being armed with crossbows, the green guys will be able to draw quills from their spines.

Production on the project is currently underway.

Ferrell and Friel in ‘Land of the Lost’

Land of the LostFor his next film, comedian will be taking a step back from his sports-related projects.  After positioning himself on the race track, ice rink and basketball court—he will now find himself smack in the middle of a prehistoric world when he takes on the 70’s classic series, .

The movie, based on the cult kid’s show, will also star of s newest hit, .  The classic version (which I personally recall watching in the 80’s) centered around a family of three - father, daughter, son - who got themselves stuck on some strange island filled with dinosaurs and alien-like creatures.  In this updated treatment, Ferrell will play a ‘disgraced paleontologist’ while Friel will be the obligatory love interest.  (What this means for Cha-Ka and the kids, I don’t know.)

No estimated release date has been announced for the production.

Unboxing Live 027: Pleo Robotic Baby Dinosaur

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Features, Robots, Toys, Videocasts,

is, without question, one of the hottest toys on the wish lists of children across America this holiday season. Ugobe’s robotic baby dinosaur is a wonder, seemingly coming to life once it’s turned on. We were able to get our hands on a brand new Pleo, and as is our custom, we figured it best to hook you guys up with a video of the unboxing experience.

If you are unfamiliar with Pleo, it’s a robotic baby dinosaur toy that was conceptualized by Caleb Chung - he also co-created Furby. It’s modeled on a one-week-old Camarasaurus dinosaur, and mimics the behavior of a newborn baby. Pleo thinks and acts independently, and Ugobe goes as far as to say “just like a real animal.” When you first turn it on, Pleo begins it’s birthing stage. It won’t react to you much, but you should still pet it and give it attention, as that will set the stage for the personality it will eventually have. After about 5-12 minutes, depending on your level of interaction, Pleo enters the hatchling stage. This lasts until the battery charge runs out, which is typically about 45 minutes. This is where it’s basic behavioral drives will start to kick-in. He’ll ask to be fed, he’ll start to walk and explore his environment, take short naps like a baby, and he’ll start to exhibit a wider range of emotions. He will begin to experiment with new sounds he can make.

Imagine your neighbor’s reaction when they find this towering over your house as a giant watchdog.  Its price is the equally enormous £28,999.99 (~$58,336.00.)
