BioShock Demo Hits Xbox Live Marketplace

BioShock

has announced that BioShock is gold and they also managed to sneak a demo of the game onto Xbox Live Marketplace. The 1.35 GB download has caused a flood of traffic, and some are reporting errors or stalls when trying to get their hands on a copy. If only PC gamers had such problems; 2K did confirm that they would be releasing a PC demo, but said only that it would be coming “later this month.”

Early reviews for the game have been exceedingly positive and with the game only a little more than a week from release, this should help hold you over for the next eight days.

E3 2007: Blue Dragon Demo Available for Download NOW

DescriptionFor all of you out there that HAVEN’T been furiously searching through the Xbox Live Marketplace for new content, the fact that the Blue Dragon demo is now live may have passed you by. Well, that’s why we’re here. Don’t you love us?

Downloads seem to be a little slow right now (I’m at about 11%), and the fact that tons of new video content from Disney is also available now probably isn’t helping. Speaking of which, on an aside rant, how in the HELL did Microsoft convince Disney to allow HD Disney content on Xbox Live? I mean, Disney is staunchly pro-Blu-Ray, putting them in the camp of top Microsoft competitors Sony and Apple. And Steve Jobs is on the board of directors of Disney for chrissake! I guess all that D Conference “Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sittin’ in a tree” stuff wasn’t just for show.

Anyway, yeah… go downlad the Blue Dragon demo now!

Blue Dragon Demo To Be Launched On July 20, Game Releases On August 28

Blue Dragon boxIf you’re a JRPG fan with access to nothing more than an Xbox 360, then things have been a bit slow going. That’s an understatement… since release, you’ve gotten nothing more than Enchanted Arms, which is arguably not all that good. But worry not, because a JRPG is coming to the U.S. next month in the form of Blue Dragon. Originally released in Japan late last year, Blue Dragon has gotten a tremendous amount of attention due to Hironobu Sakaguchi –creator of the Final Fantasy series.

Those wanting to give Blue Dragon a try before plopping down the cash for a copy will have that opportunity, as a 1.1GB demo is going to be available for download from July 20 – August 3.

Heavenly Sword Demo Coming In “Very Near Future”

Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Action, PlayStation 3

Heavenly Sword

I’ve aired my concerns over Heavenly Sword, which by all indications looks to be nothing more than a game where you beat the hell out of enemies in a coliseum setting. We’ve been promised a lot more, but we haven’t seen much more, so I’ve been reserving my excitement for when we get to see some of the real meat of the game. Well, it looks like we’ll have that opportunity when a demo is released on the PlayStation Network in the “very near future,” whatever that means.

The head of production at developer Ninja Theory, Mat Hart, had this to say on the developer’s IGN blog:

I can confirm that we are, of course, going to be releasing a demo for Heavenly Sword - and soon! This will be downloadable via the Playstation Network, so keep an eye out for it in the very near future - and I mean very near future!

Maybe this will be something we’ll see next week during E3. We know that Microsoft will be releasing tons of Marketplace content during the event as it did last year, so perhaps this is Sony’s way of combating that. Keep your fingers crossed.

Bleeding Edge TV 161: Bluetooth SIG Gives Us Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR Demo

Bluetooth SIG just announced the new spec for Bluetooth, that being Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. We had Mike Foley head on over to Gear Live headquarters to give us a first look at what is improved in the new spec, and to show off the ultra-cool near field communication technology that is now a part of Bluetooth. If that isn’t cool enough, we can also expect up to 5x better battery life out of our Bluetooth devices as well, as it pertains to Bluetooth battery drain. Check the video for all the details.

PS3s Demo Stations Arrive at Target

Target PS3 Demo consoleDestructoid is among the first sites to notice that a major retailer, Target in this case, is starting to setup their PS3 demo units. If you’re lucky, the Target in your area has a PS3 demo station just waiting to be played. Destructoid noticed some issues though - specifically that the locked down controllers made it harder to test out the functionality of Sony’s SIXAXIS. Also, you won’t be able to put your grimy little mits all over the console itself - it should be interesting to see how pretty the console looks with fingerprints all over its shiny face.

Still, this might be your first chance to check out the shiny new graphics made possible by the Cell processor and compare it to the Xbox 360.

Playstation Magazine’s Hands-On with the Playstation 3

Posted by Brian Viele Categories: Home Entertainment, Video Games

A Real Live PS3Playstation Magazine (PSM) got to play with what could be a final release version of a Playstation 3. Yes, it does work!  In fact, it works “brilliantly” according to the users at PSM.  There are some really nice pics on the site to check out showing the brilliant detail on their HD screen.

Key Comments:

  • It’s quiet like a sleeping baby. A barely audible hum. With the TV on you simply can’t hear it at all.
  • It’s heavy like a planet. No, really. It’s impossible to pick up with one hand.
  • It’s shiny like a mirror. In fact, it’s impossible to take a photograph of it without the flash spanging every picture into a starburst mess. And therefore it’s massively prone to fingerprintage too, with the tiny amount of dust in the office magically attaching itself to its surface in seconds.
  • The PS3 joypad is very light and the tilt system is very responsive.
  • The start up is amazingly fast. And game load times were faster than expected. In fact, PS3 does both at about the same speed of PSP. ie, Long load times due to the massive Blu-ray disc? Nope. Simply not an issue.

Gran Turismo HD Screens Online

Gran Turismo HD

One of the demonstrations that Sony made at E3 was a super-high resolution version of Gran Turismo, tentatively called Gran Turismo HD. The technical demo utilized the assets from Gran Turismo 4 ran at 1080p resolutions at 60 frames per second. Now, Japanese site Game Watch has made a set of full resolution screen captures from the technical demonstration available for download. At their site, users can grab a ZIP file with 10 high-resolution images. The sharpness of the images is amazing, and the screen grabs show some effects like depth-of-field. The environments are a little sparse, since they are based around the Playstation 2 version of the game, but still give gamers hope for what a full version of Gran Turismo could be for the Playstation 3.
