The Best SYTYCD Performances: July 15, 2009


And I thought last week’s White Stripes number was good.

If this is how is going to start the Top 10, I can’t imagine what the weeks ahead will have in store for us. While there were several highlights from last night’s performance show, these are the two that stood out most to me.

In the clip above, the final girls combined talents for probably the show’s best group female performance ever. The Bollywood number, choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan, was an absolute delight to watch.

Help India, Buy Ghajini

The Bollywood Hindi language movie “Ghajini” has become the inspiration for India’s first 3D video game. Both movie and game are thrillers about a man with short-term amnesia. The game has already launched in India and will be distributed worldwide by Eros International. The National Association of Software and Service Companies predicts that the Indian market will grow to about $1.3 billion and will provide employment for 30,000 animators. So not only are you playing a unique game, you are helping the country.

It’s Bollywood for Stallone and Schwarzenegger

When I think of Bollywood, I usually envision colorful garments, dancing and singing…not two-word sentences, muscles or HGH. But apparently that’s what you get when you throw Hollywood into the mix.

It’s just been announced that - yes, Sly - will follow up his roles in the latest Rocky and Rambo sequels with a stint in a Bollywood film. As a cast member in Incredible Love, Stallone will become the first well-known American actor to be featured in such a vehicle.

EarthiTalkies has adopted Netflix’s idea and the company, which is based in Seattle, has been delivering Bollywood titles since 2004. Now they have expanded and are available to residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Shaiwal Singh, the company’s founder and CEO, says that there are over 5,000 titles of Indian films in seven languages and features both popular films and award-winners. We like this idea and wonder if it could be the beginning of a trend that will include such individualized online services as iChickFlick and iFreddyKruger.
