James Franco Defends Shia LaBeouf

James Franco and Shia LaBeouf

James Franco hopes Shia LaBeouf doesn't ruin his career in his quest to show he is an "artist."

The Spring Breakers star believes the 27-year-old actor's recent antics - which have included a silent art installation called #IAMSORRY, donning a paper bag on his head for the German premiere of Nymphomaniac and repeatedly insisting on Twitter that he is no longer famous - are part of a bid for him to "reclaim his public persona." He writes in The New York Times, "This behavior could be a sign of many things, from a nervous breakdown to mere youthful recklessness. For Mr. LaBeouf's sake I hope it is nothing serious. Indeed I hope - and, yes, I know that this idea has pretentious or just plain ridiculous overtones - that his actions are intended as a piece of performance art, one in which a young man in a very public profession tries to reclaim his public persona... I think Mr. LaBeouf's project, if it is a project, is a worthy one. I just hope that he is careful not to use up all the good will he has gained as an actor in order to show us that he is an artist."

Taylor Momsen Doesn’t Use Her Sexuality to Shock

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Clothing, Style, Features,

Taylor MomsenTaylor Momsen insists she doesn't use her sexuality to shock.

The 20-year-old singer posed naked for the front cover of her band The Pretty Reckless' upcoming album Going To Hell record, causing a storm on social media when she posted the artwork. On the LP sleeve Taylor is seen showing off her back which has a giant cross emblazoned on it with an arrow pointing to her bare bottom, but she is adamant the risque pose is artistically motivated.

"Everyone was like, 'Woah, she's naked.' But everything I do has an artistic purpose behind it, from clothing to my new record cover. I don't set out to shock - I've definitely matured and evolved. I'm just a person, I make art. My sexuality is there for a reason it's not just about lewdness," she said.

The former Gossip Girl actress admits she was perplexed by her sexuality in her teens but used clothes and fashion to learn about herself. "In the beginning it was me in corsets and stripper heels and all that - I was a kid, everyone thought it was so shocking because I was young and you have to be older to wear that stuff. I was a kid confused about sexuality and all of that and expressing that confusion in all of it. I think all teenagers express themselves in that way, I was just being very overt about it," she explained.

Madonna and Katy PerryMadonna has enlisted Katy Perry to help curate her art project.

The singer has chosen her fellow pop rival to act as guest curator for Art for Freedom, her online public art initiative that allows artists to submit videos, music, poetry and photographs on the subject of freedom. "I am so fortunate to have the freedom to express myself through music. Now I'm calling all of my incredibly creative KatyCats to use their talent to show Madonna and me how they express their freedom. I believe that 2014 can be a year of great social change. Together we can all stand up for Human Rights. Join the conversation, and let your art be your voice," she commented.

The "Roar" hitmaker is tasked with choosing a star artist, who will be awarded a $10,000 grant to help a non-profit organization of their choice. Magician and illusionist David Blaine was last month's guest curator of Art for Freedom, which was initially launched in September 2013.

Kanye West Hires Andy Warhol’s Cousin

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Television,

Kanye West and Kim KardashianKanye West has hired Andy Warhol's cousin to paint Kim Kardashian.

The 36-year-old rapper, who recently boasted his fiancee is "the most beautiful woman of all time," has commissioned Monica Warhol, who is related to the late legendary pop artist, to create a one-off portrait of the brunette beauty.

Monica told the New York Post's Page Six she is very excited about the project and despite never getting the chance to meet Andy, who passed away in 1987 when she was 10, she believes he would have been very impressed by Kim: "She's an icon. She's famous for nothing. Andy would have loved her. Kim is beautiful. She's so manufactured. She looks like a human Barbie."

Arizona-based Monica has previously painted portraits of rapper Flo Rida that appear in the music video for his song, "How I Feel," and also painted a likeness of Lenny Kravitz, after meeting him in the Church Boutique in Los Angeles.

Jay Z’s Free ‘Magna Carta’ Display

Jay'Z's 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail'Jay Z didn't pay to exhibit his new album artwork in Salisbury Cathedral. The "Picasso Baby" rapper choose Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire for the global reveal of the artwork for his new album Magna Carta ... Holy Grail because the religious building holds part of the original 787-year-old historical Magna Carta document.

The hip-hop star's black-and-white artwork went on display next to four pages from the original 1215 Magna Carta - a 63-clause charter setting out the origins of English democracy - and although he didn't pay for the stunt, it is rumored he will perform a private show for the Dean of the Cathedral, June Osbourne. "I hope he does play [a show for us]! That would make my children's year. And mine too!" she told NME.
