American Idol’s Jordin Sparks Releases Debut Album

Jordin SparksJordin Sparks, the youngest winner to claim the crown, has just released her first album.  The production is a result of her last-season victory…but is Jordin now last season, as well?

The seventeen-year-old included lightweight, loving little ditties on her album which enhance her wholesome image (part of the reasons fans fell in love with her), but there are some different sounds included as well. “Young and in Love” is a bit of a deviation for Sparks, though most of the other songs remain just as tame as fans want them to be. All in all, no big surprises for Sparks’ debut album, which may or may not be a good thing.

Without a few raunchy, rollicking tracks, does Sparks have a shot at Kelly Clarkson-esque success? There’s got to be a pill somewhere in all that jam, and the new Sparks album just doesn’t seem to have it.

Will J.Lo and Epic Records Part Ways?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Gossip, Rumors,

Jennifer Lopez in VersaceRumor has it that may soon be in the market for a new record label, as sources purportedly close to Epic Records say the diva’s album sales aren’t doing well. Couple sinking sales with the expenses related to Lopez promotions, and you’re looking at one angry label. According to the source, her last album cost over $60,000 – for the cover alone.

Epic absorbs the cost of Lopez’s promotional expenses as well, which supposedly cost $8,000 in makeup per appearance. Are you flipping kidding me? Eight large on makeup for a woman that everyone already thinks is hot? No wonder Epic is tired of J.Lo’s epic spending.

Universal To Release USB Singles

Keane AlbumUniversal Music will begin releasing singles on USB memory sticks October 29 to compensate for the decreasing sales of CDs. The first releases will be those by the rock band Keane and Pussycat Doll Nicole at a price of ~$10.00. The company is counting on the slightly more expensive price as being agreeable to consumers because of the additional storage space. EMI plans to release Pink Floyd’s studio album on the same format, while Warner is planning a November release of the electro-punk band Hadouken.

The Continuing Saga of Britney Spears

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Talent, Gossip,

Britney SpearsAs if the well-publicized divorce and custody battle between and wasn’t already enough of a carnival show, Monday saw new surprises in the former famous couple’s lives. Tony Barretto, a former Spears bodyguard, was revealed as the “secret witness” that’s been hinted at by attorney Gloria Allred.

The bodyguard was there to allegedly testify to “drug use, nudity and safety issues” on the part of Britney Spears, actions the bodyguard said took place in front of her two children. Barretto, who is a father himself, lived at the Spears home full-time from March to May, and was terminated because – according to Allred – he did not hear Spears when she asked him to pick up her hat. Britney’s lawyer is going to step away from her case after apparently butting heads with Spears over legal strategy. Spears has also been ditched by her manager after only one month, saying that “current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job.” Bad press doesn’t help, either. Britney’s album, meanwhile, is still set for its November release date. In other Britney news, a tabloid has reported that Spears was booted out of the Chateau Marmont hotel allegedly for shoveling gourmet food into her face. The report says other guests demanded the once-pop star be asked to leave. This report is unconfirmed by other media sources.

Prince Seeks to Protect Artistic Content on the Net

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music,

PrincePrince has asked YouTube to remove unauthorized clips of his recent concert in London. There have been more than 1,000 of them eliminated in the past week by Web Sheriff, a company he hired to do the dirty work. He is also trying to stop unauthorized filesharing and items sold on eBay without his permission. Managing director of the company John Giacobbi said, “Prince feels very strongly that people should remember his concerts as they were, not as some grainy mobile phone footage.”

Considering all the freebies he gave away to UKers, we think this is a decent request on his part. We have been to several concerts of late where security will no longer allow cameras to be taken inside and suspect it is a sign of more restrictions to come.
