Samsung SDI has created the anorexic 17-inch AMOLED TV, which debuted at the recent KES 2006 in Korea. It features a panel that is a mere 1.8 mm and a screen that is only 12 mm thick. Combining OLED and LCD technology, the need for a backlight is gone, and so is the largest and heaviest part of the TV. The AMOLED flat panel has a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and a 170º viewing angle.
