Vizio SmartCast P-Series

I’ve been excited for the wide release of 4K UHD television sets that specifically integrate HDR (high dynamic range) to create an amazing picture. HDR 4K sets have been around for a couple of years, but have been very price prohibitive. Now, Vizio has released its new SmartCast P-Series Ultra HD HDR Home Theater Display, and has changed the game in the process.

This is the first 4K UHD display to have Dolby Vision HDR with built-in Google Cast. Even more unique, the SmartCast P-Series does away with the traditional remote, instead shipping with a 6-inch Android tablet that’s used to navigate the UI, cast content directly to the display, change settings, etc. You use the remote like any other tablet or smartphone interface - tap, swipe, and even use voice control.

With Google Cast, you can sen content from the remote control tablet right to the TV display from thousands of Google Cast-enabled apps, including YouTube and Netflix.

Vizio didn’t skimp on the backlighting here either, as the SmartCast P-Series sports full-array LED backlighting with up to 128 active LED zones, resulting in a uniform picture, with deep, rich black levels - this is typically something found on much more expensive television sets! The display itself sports a 240Hz effective refresh rate alongside backlight scanning, which provides nice, sharp details even in fast scenes like action movies and sports.
