Samsung Forecasts the Demise of Blu-ray
Samsung believes that Blu-ray will only last another 5 years and then will be replaced by another format or type of technology such as OLED. Andy Griffiths, Director of Consumer Affairs told Pocket-lint, “We will launch the OLED technology when it’s at a price that will be appealing to the consumer, unfortunately that’s not yet.”
Oddly enough, he may be right. We found out recently that Sony is rumored to be lowering the price of its BDP-S350 this month to make it a $300.00 purchase.

I think Blu Ray will be around a little longer than stated in the article. OLED has been the talk and talk and talk and talk of the town for a looooooooooong time, without commercial results…...so far.

Blu-ray is a storage technology, and OLED is a display technology. It doesn’t make sense to say that OLED would replace Blu-ray any more than it would make sense to say apples are replacing car wheels.

As with what Nate True has said… OLED is NOT a STORAGE format, but a DISPLAY format.
Someone needs to research a tad more, OLED has been around for some time and its already being sold, heck i even got an mp3 player with an OLED screen from a bargain bin.
Blu-Ray however still could be replaced, I don’t know why optical format was chosen in the first place, cartridge format is far more faster and the capacity is ever increasing. I’m actually surprised that there is no firewire storage sticks, as that would be far more faster and powerful then the current usb ones, but with usb3.0 getting closer to completion that may all change.
