2009 Holiday Gift Guide: Zune HD

We must say, one device we were excited about this year was the Zune HD, and as evidenced in our Zune HD review, Microsoft came through with a superb device with a fantastic service behind it to match. In fact, we’ve said it many time that, in our opinion, for someone that truly loves music, Zune is the best deal around. Coupled with the $15 per month Zune Pass (which isn’t a requirement,) you get a top-notch portable media player with an OLED screen, HD Radio, and web browser with the advantage of being able to listen to pretty much any song you can think of at a moments notice.
The Zune HD retails for $289 for the 32GB model, and $219 for the 16GB model - however, Amazon’s got a great sale on the Zune HD that’ll put the 32GB model into your hands for $269 ($21 off,) while the 16GB model will run you $189 ($30 off.)

I have a 16GB Zune HD and must say it’s one of my favorite gadgets. It’s easy and fun to use, the Zune software is exponentially better than iTunes and WiMP (Windows Media Player), and it’s rugged. Yes, I’ve already dropped mine on the driveway. It suffered a few scuffs at the corners but that’s all (solid state is wonderful!). I also often carry it in my pocket with no sort of case or other protection and there is nary a scratch on it.

the ipod touch all the way here… Zune is great and all and offers some pretty slick options but the apps for the ipod are what makes it so great…. just can’t beat it.

The Zune HD is a great device, good feel, good software, etc. But I refuse to pay subscription fees forever for my music, and you can’t use the Digital Copy feature of ANY DVD or BluRay to put a movie onto this device, which is the absolute total killer for me.

@ggore
You can just put your movie on your harddisk and sync it to the Zune HD.
