Box Office Breakdown: ‘Man of Steel’ Soars Above ‘This Is the End’

Man of Steel

Zack Snyder's latest Superman reboot, Man of Steel, was one of the most anticipated films of this summer - and it definitely delivered for Warner Bros.

Bringing in $113 million from the weekend earned the Christopher Nolan-produced flick the record opening for June, beating out Toy Story 3 ($110.3 million). Coming in second with $20.5 million was the debut of the Seth Rogen apocalyptic comedy This Is the End. Now You See Me stayed put at number three with $10.3 million while Fast & Furious 6 fell two spots to number four with $9.4 million. The Purge took the greatest dive, falling from the top spot last week to number five with $8.2 million.

Box Office Breakdown: ‘The Purge’ Slays Competition

The Purge

Though it might not have made as big of a killing at the box office as Iron Man 3 or Star Trek Into Darkness, The Purge made it to the top of its box office weekend with $36.3 million, successfully bumping Fast & Furious 6 off its two-week stint at number one.

The latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise garnered $19.7 million, while the magician thriller Now You See Me also fell one spot to number three with $19.5 million. Owen Wilson Loved Having Son Visit ‘Internship’ Set

Owen Wilson with his sonVince Vaughn and Owen Wilson loved having their kids on the set of The Internship.

The Wedding Crashers co-stars have reunited for the comedy - which sees them play interns at Google - eight years after their previous success and they were thrilled to have their young kids visit them at work.

"In Wedding Crashers we didn't have little kids visiting the set. It wouldn't have been appropriate maybe for little kids, but I think on The Internship it was nice. It was nice to have my son visit - and Vince's family," Owen said, speaking about his two-year-old son Ford, with ex-girlfriend Jade Duell.

Meanwhile, Vince- who welcomed daughter Locklyn with realtor Kyla Weber in December 2010 -added, "My daughter came to set. That was awesome. I don't know if she'll remember it. She's so young! But it always makes it fun for me."

‘The Internship’: A Watered Down ‘Wedding Crashers,’ Mostly Bores

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in 'The Internship'

The Internship is one of those comedies you keep hoping will be better but deep down in your heart you knew all along that it was really just a quick cash grab.

At least that's what I felt while sitting through the latest Owen Wilson and Vince Vaugh vehicle where they try to revive their struggling careers by taking on internships at of all places, Google. The central characters are mid 40's and after being fired from a sales company that has gone belly up, they embark on a trip to California to take internships at Google, the internet search king.  Running gags ensue and much of the slang the kids use is meant to be seen as over the heads of Wilson and Vaughn. Almost all of the slang used by the young co-stars is very popular and the look of bewilderment on their faces would lead one to believe that the two actors were portraying characters in their 70's rather than 40's. This running gag gets old pretty quickly.
