Comic-Con News: Mark Ruffalo is The Hulk

Robert Downey, Jr., also known as Iron Man, gave news-hungry Comic-Con fans exactly what they wanted during his appearance at the convention: he announced the next Hulk.

Mark Ruffalo, primarily known for roles in the romantic comedy and dramatic film genres, will officially step into The Hulk’s sizable shoes to take on the role of self-effacing scientist Bruce Banner, the green hero’s alter ego. (Edward Norton, who played the green superhero in the 2008 film, was dropped from the upcoming Avengers movie project, leaving a huge casting hole in the Marvel movie franchise.)

Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) has been confirmed for the role of Hawkeye.

is scheduled for release in 2012. Comic book fans won’t have to wait that long to see more live-action heroes, however: Captain America and Thor are both getting their own movies, which will release in the summer of 2011.

Cinema Scene: Joss Whedon Helms Avengers, Del Toro’s Haunted Mansion

Joss Whedon-Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s Joss Whedon officially announced at Comic-Con that he will be directing The Avengers. The superhero film is scheduled for a May 4, 2012 release.

-According to Will Arnett and show creator Mitch Hurwitz, the Arrested Development movie is still going to happen. I guess I’ll believe it when I see it?

-Lionsgate finally blinked. Saw 3D, originally scheduled to debut on Oct. 22, has been pushed to Oct. 29 - one week after Paranormal Activity 2 premieres.

-A Hobbit-less Guillermo del Toro is focusing on his next project. He is now planning to produce, write and possibly direct a scary version of Disney’s The Haunted Mansion.

-Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, has been chosen to open the 67th Venice Film Festival. The festival opens September 1.


Will Ferrell, Tina Fey Reveal Megamind Movie Ending

Spoiler alert! Maybe.

Reporters recently caught up to former SNL funnyman , who was on the Comic-Con red carpet to promote upcoming animated flick Megamind. Co-star and former SNL cast mate Tina Fey, who plays Roxanne in the film, walked the carpet with Ferrell. Brad Pitt also stars in the flick.

“My character does defeat . Finally! I have been chasing that guy for years,” Ferrell cracked wise with Entertainment Tonight, potentially revealing the movie’s end.

Ferrell plays the title character in the flick, Megamind, the world’s smartest super villain. Pitt plays hero Metro Man, who must thwart all of Megamind’s plans.

The movie will be released on November 5.
